My brother has a 686-3 on consignment in his sights (pardon the pun). It was apparently made in late 1992 and has a square butt. It wears a Hogue grip (WITHOUT S&W logo). The revolver appears like new and comes with the box, all paperwork and tools. Given the condition of the revolver and box, it just seems that if the original grips were wood, they would be on the gun or in the box.

The revolver may have been made right at that time when S&W was going to Hogues for their 686s, but my 1996 686-4 has a Hogue grip WITH the S&W logo.

What do you guys think, is the Hogue grip without S&W logo probably original to the late 1992 686-3?

I have a 686-4 (square butt) that I bought new, in March of 95. The grips that came on it don't have the S&W logo - they say "Hogue MonoGrip" on the RH side.

Hope this info is helpful.
