If it’s a “no dash,” check the firing pin hole, in the bushing. Some or all of them had holes that allowed fired primers to swell into the hole and lock up the cylinder. S&W issued a recall on them and would fix them for free. I think they still will.

I just took possession of my first L frame Smith. It’s a 686 no dash, 2.5” bbl with serial number ALV9xxx. Is this a Lew Horton edition? Thanks
