Happily took possession of a new Model 69 2 weeks ago, the first Smith in this abode with "the hole."

Immediately noted the rubber grips were loose.

I took them off and re-installed, tightening the screw and hoping this would stop the wiggle in the grip.

NOPE!!

Today, I picked the gun up just to look at it and both grip panels fell off!!

Something is either not glued or missing. The screw is fully home on the right panel. Looking into the round molded place that accepts a screw end on the inside of the Left panel, I see nothing to accept the screw!! No threaded bushing or anything. I see nothing on my gun work bench, inside the plastic revolver box, or anywhere that could be a missing black rubber screw-part.

Anyone else experienced this?

2nd question: I think I have a set of original K/L Magna Round Butt grips. Before I attempt to find those, will they fit? I think I am already burned-out on the rubber originals and highly prefer the look of wood.

Next question: Will Smith replace these grips with a simple phone call?

THANKS, Bo

I would just spring for a set of rubber hogue square butt conversion grips or the factory 500 mag grips. The S&W rubber grips they've been using for the last 15 years or so get taken off as soon as I get the gun home

Bocash, sounds like you are missing the brass bushing from the one side.

If you locate them, your K/L round butt grips will fit the 69 as it is a round butt L frame. Lots of options out there for replacement grips in the material of your choice.

Regardless I'd give customer service a call. They should be able to help you out.

.

THANKS friends!!

I knew something was missing from the left grip panel because there was nothing there for the screw to "bite" into. I just purchased a new Smith 66 Snub with the same grips. Opened it up and viola!! There was the bushing embedded in the left grip panel.

Rather than mess with these rubber grips that aren't worth 50 cents, I ordered THESE BELOW from Altamont. Problem solved!

**(SORRY-the site would not allow me to load the Altamont photo of their K/L Frame Boot Grips in spite of my having copied it and put it on my computer desk top)

How do I correct this?

THANKS TO ALL !! Bo in western NC

Like this? Just testing to see if I can post the picture. Edit: well, that worked. You have to copy the picture and save it somewhere on your computer, then upload it to a hosting site. I use Post Image, which is free. Copy the URL in the proper place, the one that says For Forums, If I remember correctly, and then past it here.

I remember the old days when the first thing anyone would do is take off the wooden magna or target grips and replace them with Pachys neoprenes or Hogue grips (wood or rubber).

Gene,

Are these grips the Altamont "Boot Grip?" If so, I just ordered a pair of smooth rosewoods to replace the cheap Smith grips that fell off. To me, it is not worth it to send them back.

Thanks, Bo

I believe so. I just copied the picture from the website to see if it could be done.
