I handled a S&W 69 at a shop the other day. I envisioned this gun as a great trail gun, and it should be. But the trigger was horrible. Creepy and gritty. I have never felt one like that on a Smith. I am a big Smith fan but I think I will stick with my Ruger Bisley 3.75" Super Blawkhawk for now.

Don't let one gun's trigger ruin the joy of owning a model 69. Mine is so good that I have done nothing to enhance the action.
I found the trigger action comparable between a ruger Redhawk and a model 69. You talking about single action? Double action? Heavy and crisp in my experience, almost a glass rod. Quality varries greatly these days, check out other specimines.

Mine is head and shoulders right out of the box above any Ruger I ever handed. My shooting buddies 69 is great too. Sounds like you found a lemon.
My 69 has the typical great S&W trigger, but a friend purchased a 629 about a year ago and his trigger feels like you're dragging sandpaper across sandpaper. The quality seems to vary from gun to gun a good bit.

Mine has been just fine, but it was a much different feel coming from my 1911's. It does get alot better the more you shoot it too. It's my go to gun when I head for the woods or the farm

The trigger on mine has been good from the start. It is a very easy to shoot revolver among the most accurate I have ever owned.
I dearly love my recently purchased model 69, but will admit it has the worst DA trigger I've ever seen on a S&W.
Now having said that, it is no worse than any Ruger DA trigger I've seen. I guess that's not being nice about either, but that's how it seems to me.

I've bought 2 new Smiths in the last couple of years. The first one was a J frame model 60-15 for my wife and the trigger felt a bit gritty. When I got home I removed the sideplate and found the interior to be kind of dirty. After a good cleanup the trigger felt much better and now that the pistol has several hundred rounds through it along with a lighter rebound slide spring, the trigger is as good as any of my older Smith N frame revolvers. The single action trigger pull is a crisp 2 1/4 lbs and breaks like a glass rod. My second new Smith revolver was a 627-5 Pro and the trigger was decent feeling right out of the box. I did open it up and the interior was much cleaner than the model 60. So I guess the moral of the story is that sometimes they might let out a pistol that wasn't cleaned interally as good as others.
Occasionally you get one worse than the other. My new 327TTR8 was one of the worse I've had in a long time. The good thing is S&W triggers are easy to clean up & make "right".
I've had Rugers, & test them on occasion in the LGS too, but I still contend that typically the worse S&W trigger is better than the best Ruger trigger. I never took the time to perfect my Ruger triggers & ended up just selling them.

Hey neighbor. Bought mine at High Priced Herbies, but I like it still. Just scored a 640 Pro off Fresno Backpage. It's in gun jail at the Range until next week.
