Found a couple of Model 910's at the local Gander Mtn used pistols section. They are asking $399. is that a good price?

The 910 is from the value line, and it has some plastic parts that are metal in the regular lineup. Don't get me wrong, I own a 910 and like it fine. Just how "used" they are will be a major factor in determining value. If it's pristine and comes with accessories like the original box and a couple of extra magazines, then maybe. It's it's well-used, with worn spots and no accessories, then I'd have to say no, not really.

The fact that you can get it locally, without an added shipping cost and transfer fee is quite helpful, though. If you bid $300 at an online auction, then added ~$35 for shipping and another $40-$50 for transfer (that's what it is in my neck of the woods - it may be much less where you are) then you're getting close to that $399 anyway, and it's always better to be able to look at it in person than rely just on photos.

BaldEagle makes a lot of good points..... so ditto.....

That seems high for a 910 IMO.... unless anib with at least 2 mags......

Note the 910 shipped with 1 or 2 10 round mags. during the 1994-04 AWB.

I prefer the 915...

As BaldEagle1313 says, it's all about the condition, number of mags, original box vs. no box... and condition! :) Did I mention condition? :D

In my area, the value line guns are often found in better shape than their premium line counterparts simply because many are not as old and not as worn. I don't own a Model 910 but I do own a Model 915 and a couple Model 910S bright stainless pistols. I paid right around $400 each for the 910S pistols and much more for the 915 (because nice, all-original ones in box, etc. have been very hard to find in my area). All three of my pistols are in absolute top condition in original box.

Worn/cosmetically damaged condition will bring down the price. Lowest I've ever seen on a black/blued 910 was just under $300.00 but some members report seeing worn Model 915's in the mid-$200's.

Sounds more like a 5906 price. But hey! I turned down a LNIB 915 with only 1 mag for $375 OTD. BUT I had just earlier that day put a nice 5906 in layaway at $350, will be close to $400 OTD

My post is not intended to offend anyone who absolutely LOVES their 910 or 915, but here is how I see it:

Right now, 915's are everywhere. The 915 is a better pistol than the 910 in every way (but not by a lot) and both guns are workhorses, both guns have a really cheap finish that will NOT stand up nicely to use and both are truly destined to live out their lives as useful, durable, hard-life tools.

I say that no 910 is worth $399 right now, no way. I would absolutely rather put $275 in to a worn-looking 915 than four hundred in to a lesser pistol.

And if the 910 is in sparkling and NEW looking condition--
it will only stay that way if you make it a safe queen. If you use it, it is destined to look much like a $275 915.

Good guns, not collectible. If you want to drop four hundo on a 3rd Gen, find a 5906 or a 5903.

The 910 is a nice pistol. $399 is not a bad price these days either. Especially for one in lightly used condition. Take a look at what the asking price is for that plastic striker fired junk. ;)

With the 910 you are getting a smooth trigger right out of the box. And there is no need to buy an aftermarket barrel or a bunch of parts from Apex to give it accuracy or reliability.

And the 910 is VERY durable. Mine has over 20,000 rounds through it. It now has a crack in a frame rail, but that is my fault for not knowing how to properly maintain it during the first 10,000 rounds.

Buy it, shoot it, love it. It is a lot of gun for the money. Regards 18DAI

I consider my 910 and my .45 caliber 457 both solid, workhorse pistols from the infamous "Value Line," always reliable no matter what. After the first photo was taken, I put the slide from a 915 on my 910 frame for an interesting Franken-Wesson. I prefer the streamlined looks of the 910 frame in contrast to that step on the 915.

As to the OP's original question, if it's in good shape, I'd say yeah, $400 is a not a bad price for this pistol.

I was wrong about the price, they are sale at $329, not $399. No box, one mag. a lot of wear.

Well, that certainly changes things! :p

If you're going for the heavily used look in a black/blued Model 910, check out the (low) prices on that large firearms auction website. You might be able to score a real bargain that might be in better shape than the ones at Gander. All depends on how you feel about auctions and how much your local FFL charges for an incoming transfer.

You might also think about a heavily used Model 915 as per Sevens' earlier post. I'm not thrilled with the earlier style sights on the 915, but they can be changed if they bother you like they bother me. The point is that heavily used ones can sometimes be had for very short money.

In my view, the main reason to take a 910 over a 915 is that you can often find a 910 that is damn near brand new condition inside and out with box and spare magazine without breaking the bank. But if the heavily used look doesn't bother you, I'd go with a heavily used 915 over a heavily used 910, especially if the earlier style sights don't bother you. :)

When you add the cost of shipping and transfer...... another $60-85..... that may not be such a bad deal vs. an auction site gun.

If your budget allows it; I grab it if it's not in too bad of cosmetic shape and all the wear is on the outside.......... when was the last time you saw a 910,915 or 59xx gun locally................... besides

one always needs/can use a truck, float trip down the Allegheny (in my case) river gun........

:D.... that last line was for TTSH!!!!!

Edit: 10rd or 15rd magazine??????

There is no substitute for examining a pistol in hand, rather than an auction site purchase. The prices to transfer a pistol continue to rise in my experience, maybe an indication of the dealers displeasure with internet purchases. In my area the prices of 3rd gen guns are rising, boxed lightly used 9mm guns are in the $500 range.

So if you are not on the collector side, and can live with the plastic mag release, I'd say that's short money for a functional metal 9mm semi auto.

I sure take a lot of kidding over my well-known preference for "used-but-not-abused" over "used-and-abused" in my 3rd Gens! :p I even have to sit in the corner all by myself at Team 3rd Gen meetings just because no one wants to sit next to a "used-but-not-abused" kind of guy. :o But that's okay with me. ;) Different strokes for different folks! :D

Yes, the well worn look (lots of "character") is really *in* these days... at least on this forum. :) It reminds me of a trip to the mall I recently had to take... and what do I see as I pass the clothing displays? Pants and slacks for sale with holes pre-worn in them for BIG BUCKS! I can get the same holy pants down at the Goodwill for under $5. :o Cheaper yet on Wednesdays (a.k.a., "Bargain Day").

I am aware that S&W is doing that too now... i.e., selling guns with the distressed look. Just not my thing.

Anyway, I'm seeing used black/blued 910's on that big auction website for $200 with no bids yet. Add $25 shipping and a $25 transfer fee and that gun would be $250 here in MA (and yes, it is on our "lists"). That vs. $329+Sales Tax? I think I'd take a chance on another auction in that situation. :D We already know it's "used-and-abused" so what's the problem? :p

He is definitely talking about Gunbroker. Many around here have gotten in to the habit of referring to Gunbroker in very bland terms... I can only assume because a small few are a little confused about the very strict forum RULES that prohibit dropping a link, auction number or direct reference to -ANY- live auction.

I believe that it is a forum-wide prohibition simply to prevent spam, especially spam dumped in posts in some nonchalant fashion to generate interest in something for sale.

We can say Gunbroker as we please. But you will get your post edited or deleted entirely (or the entire thread wiped from existence) and you will be warned or suspended if you post any references to live, on-going auctions.
