I have been looking for a j frame for concealed carry. I have a lead on one for sale. I havn,t personally talked to the guy yet, a friend told me about the gun this morning. He says the gun is a 9mm j frame. I did a little google search and I think it must be a 940 j frame. I can,t find a lot of info on a model 940. A 9mm revolver would be fine with me. The guy is asking $325. If the gun is in good shape is that a fair price. What can you guys tell me about the model 940. Does anybody have pictures of good examples. Thanks in advance.

Do not hesitate, buy it! It is a 5-shot 9 mm revolver in the J frame, DAO trigger (concealed hammer) and requires moon clips for extraction. A nice gun and collectible on top of that.

I have been looking for a 940 for awhile with no luck. The ones I have seen on Gunbroker were a lot more than $325. I would grab it as long as it is in good shape.

I have two 940s with 3 inch barrels. I just lucked into them several years ago. For the money you mentioned, I'd jump on it like a frog on a junebug. The seem to be quite a bit higher in price where I live. Don't see them very often.

940 j frame

I'd buy it. It's a good price for any Smith & Wesson revolver not to mention its a J frame and a 9mm. I wish I could find one. I would carry that off duty without a doubt.

fair its a steal on a 940 if u don't buy it send me his info the 940 was made from 1991-1998 i like the 940 i have a 940-1

I found my M940-1 at a local gun shop just this past year. It was obviously used but in excellent condition. When I saw the price tag of $379, I almost jumped out of my skin. I knew they went for considerably more money and purchased the gun that same day. My original plan was to re-sell the gun for a big profit and use the left over money to buy a M60 or M640. I made the unfortunate mistake of shooting it first, however, and fell in love. IMO it is quite a bit snappier than a 38 spl. and is surprisingly accurate at shorter distances. I took off the boot grip and went with the Uncle Mike's full length combat grip. All-in-all a very nice little carry gun. Since deciding to keep mine, I've been watching them on gunbroker. Nice ones usually go for between $650 and $700. If you want it, I would not drag my feet!

a steal at 325...

the only downside, you might find that the chambers get a bit sticky on extraction after firing a couple of cylinders, mine was, some work with a hone will take care of that. May also be dependent on ammo choice to some extent.

This one of those times that I feel like you are just joshing us and you already have it in your hands laughing at the great deal you got.
So.
just go and get it and sell it to me for 400 smackers!!!!

After seeing everybodys reaction on here I quickly called the guy about the 9mm and ofcourse it turned out to be to good to be true. It wasn.t a smith at all. The gun is a ruger sp101 in 9mm. It is still a nice gun, but at 28oz. it is to heavy. I guess I,ll go back to searching for a j frame. Thanks anyway for the info guys.

I paid more for a 940 than it cost to convert a 637 to 9mm. If you can get a 940 for less than $500, assuming it is not destroyed, do it. I carry my 940 or 637 daily; I believe the J-frame and 9mm to be a perfect match.

Can you send me the sellers contact info? I'd love a chance at a 9mm SP101 for $325.

Yes, a 9 mm SP-101 is also a good deal at that price, but it makes for a big carry gun. 940s are out there, keep looking!

I had two 9mm Ruger SP101s & they were nice shooters..
They don't carry any were as nice as the 940 IMO..
But the 940 doesn't carry as well as the Airweight Either..
