Model Help Please.

I am in need of some help identifying what Model this S&W Revolver is. I listed what information I have.

• Nickel Finish
• 4” pinned barrel stamped S&W .357 Magnum
• cylinder is recessed
• ½” wide hammer
• ½” wide trigger
• serial number #2K27762 stamped on butt and also on frame
• 3 screws
• What I believe is C4393 X G10 is stamped in two places

I tried to identify it in the Standard Catalog but had no success. The only thing I discovered is that the serial range puts the revolver in 1971. Any help and estimated worth would be greatly appreciated. My wild guess it is close to a Model 19.

For some reason the Mod 19-3 was never stamped in yoke area. I have a nickel 4inch model 19-3 just like yours that begins with 5K as a serial so it's quite close so my opinion is, that it is a model 19-3

Thanks for the information. In my limited experience this is the first S&W revolver without a model number stamped in the yoke area that I have witnessed.

Before 1958, none of them had model numbers at all, let alone stamped in the yoke area. Model numbers were assigned in the summer of 1957, but model-marked guns did not start appearing until the next year. However, after about mid-year 1958, model number stamping in the yoke area was standard practice.

As noted, your gun was made well into the model number era, and probably left the factory in 1971. So, it should have been stamped MOD 19-3 (1967-1977). Sometimes this step got missed and that is evidently what happened with your Combat Magnum.

It isn't a big deal. With stamps and coins a misstamp matters in terms of value. Not so with S&W revolvers.

It is a nice looking nickel finished Model 19-3. I suspect the stocks are original. Thanks for sharing the pics.
