EDIT -- Title corrected , Thanks Hondo.

I own a S&W model of 1902 , round butt. It came with replacement grips , magna style. I have been
looking for period correct grips ; of course , the options are limited. I have considered a new set of period style grips which were made for the Heritage series repro model of 1905. Would they fit? I tried a K frame round butt Tyler grip adaptor a while back ; it did not quite fit the contour of the grip frame. This made me wonder if there were any changes between the 1902 and the 1905. Any input would be appreciated.

Also , any suggestions as to where/how I might acquire a period appropriate set of grips without having to refinance the house would also be appreciated. And - were all of the original grips of the 1902 hard rubber , or were there also checkered wood round butt grips?

These are my questions , thank you. 'Ski

Is it a 1902 pre changes or 1902 1st change? You didn't provide a serial # to help determine that. The 1st change could have hard rubber or round top checkered walnut service stocks with no medallions.

Post a want ad in this forum's accessories section.

1st change , acknowledged.

Would you know if all pre war grips would fit that particular model , or were the grips specific to 1902 1st change? Again , I found it odd that the Tyler grip adaptor for a K frame round grip did not conform to the grip frame...

Come to think of it , the post war magnas fit , so I guess 1905 round grips should fit too ...?

I believe any K frame rd butt stocks will fit as evidenced by the post war Magnas on it.

1920s walnut stocks are much more plentiful and almost the same. They'd just need the tops dished a bit to match.

Proper 1902 stocks with dished top and sharp cornered checkering border (right side):

1920s era stocks w/o dished top. Notice bottom border is straight because they're sq butt:
