Model of 1950 .38/44 HD

I got this one in a trade with a friend today.

Serial # S149732

Factory nickel. It wears Jay Scott pearls and a Tyler-T-Grip but I know it's supposed to have the diamond magnas.

Anyone know what year it was made?

Nice, does it have N stamps confirming the nickel? Probably 1956 although you'd need a letter to know just when and to where it shipped.

Yeah, first thing I checked before the trade.

S148882 in blue shipped April 1955. Pretty close to your number, but only a letter will give you any certainty of the ship date.

Anyone remember the name of the .38 special police load these were meant for?

The 38 Special "Super Police" was loaded with a 200 gr. round nose lead bullet. I don't remember the specified velocity but I think a Friend has a box of 38/44 ammo by Western listed as Super Police 200 grain round nose lead.


If I can remember I'll ask him if I can get a picture of his ammo for the 38/44. I don't remember him having a S&W 38/44 but he also collected unique ammunition. If he had the ammunition he tried to find the gun for the ammo. He has a very nice collection of S&W revolvers.
