Model of 1950 Pre-24 44 Special Value

This gun was originally purchased by my grandmother from my grandfather from a friend who used it durning his time at the Dallas police department. My grandfather liked it because it was nickel plated and none of his other firearms were that way. When he passed away it was gifted to me along with his other firearms. Normally, I am a purist and I would rather have it blued like it came from the factory. But because it was his firearm and that's the way he liked it I plan on keeping it that way.

That's a horse of a whole different color! I wouldn't change a thing either!!!!

I was just about to predict that this was a cop gun when I saw the last post. The nickel treatment is pretty common in Texas LEO scenes. Austin PD guns of the era were ordered nickel from the factory. I think you have a really cool piece of Texas history. I have similar guns in similar condition in my collection even though others will tell you they aren't collectible.

For insurance purposes I think I'd put a value in the $1500 to 2K range. Glad you shared this one with us. Always nice to see a Dallas PD. I'd get some stag grips and a carved holster and head to a BBQ!

For the record, there is a chemical non-electrolysis process that will remove the nickel plating. Gary Lowe knows a lot about it, and recently he processed a hammer and trigger set for me, along with one of his. They came out very nice. This chemical does not remove any case-coloring. Ife it were mine, at the very least I would clean up the hammer and trigger, and the front and rear sights. I know your grandfather liked nickel plated guns, but we also know that he did not have the plating done himself. Possibly he would have liked the hammer and trigger and sights to have not been plated.
