Nice single shot. I do not believe the box is factory, since they usually used chamois leather lining for this model. The screwdriver was S&W hollow brass handle and all the cases I have seen had a brush on a twisted wire rod, not a wiper. Perhaps a British case? Found your set sold in 2014 from the Dr. John Hall collection. Typical factory combination set below. Also, your serial number shows up in Jink's book as one of 861 22 caliber Single shot pistols made.
Those are GERMAN PROOFS. This isn’t a London case. It’s a German case.
The proofs date to the turn of the century and are not Nitro proofs so it’s been BLACK POWDER PROOFED IN GERMANY. Likely early 1900’s.
Very nice.
London/Birmingham proofs are generally V & P marks. That’s including the Boer Wars. I have a MK IV 45 war weapon that’s proofed from 1899-1903 with repetitive V & P with Nitro proofs.
If this gun was British proofed it would have those same proofs.
This is what happens when the story is told wrong to begin with and repeated over and over.
The German cases are actually quite rare as are the German Bulldogs.
