a frind of mine died recently and the family is selling his gear to get some very much needed money . It has a 6-6 1/2 " bbl , great -excellent finish , the completely checkerd top but there is no mod # , i.e.27 , 27-2 , on the froame just the ser# s1248xx . any help on model, age , value would be greatly appreciated . there is no box .

Shipped in 1954-55 and they didn't start model marking until about 1958 hence no 27.
Welcome to the forum. It's a ".357 Magnum" (Pre-Model 27) made around 1954-55. I would think $800 is fair for what you describe, but it may sell for more on an auction site.
