What is involved to fit the .22 cyln to the original .22Mag revolver.
I have a 51 and a shooter grade 48. I've got a model 34 .22LR cyln. Is it best to send to S&W? What additional parts would one need? extractor rod, star etc. I have seen that both of these models were offered with this option. How does it work with the .22lr in the .22mag barrel.Which is bigger?

Thanks,
Ischia

Hey Ischia,
Im not an authority but I found a Model 48 recently with both cylinders which led me to do some reading in the SCSW.

The 51 and the 34 are both J frame guns with 1.44" long cylinders and so should work together.

The model 48 is obviously a K frame gun and wont interchange with your J frames but should interchange with a Model 17 cylinder.

On a side note, The Model 53 Jet used a longer magnum cylinder and wont interchange .

Those changeable cylinders were adjusted to set the cylinder to barrel gap and timing for each specific gun.

Im sure someone more knowledgable will be able to give better advice but in the meen time,
You might try S&W to see if they have the parts needed and will still do the work.

This is Just my opinion
Good Luck.
