I've had a 3913 for several years and enjoyed shooting it at the range, but not as a concealed carry gun because that first double action shot was never accurate. Draw, fire 3 shots, decock, move safety back to fire position, reholster. Repeat several more times. The target is 8.5 by 11 card stock at 10-12 yards. Two shots in center of paper, one on a random edge or not in the target at all. After several range trips I decided I had wasted enough ammo.
Back home, double check chamber and mag is empty, stand in front of mirror, draw, aim and pull the trigger thru double action and note where the sights are pointed when the hammer falls.
Practice 2-3 times a week for 3 weeks. I never got any better.
Oh well, I enjoy shooting it SA at the range.
A few weeks back there was a discussion here on how to disable the decocking sear on a "traditional double action" S&W.
On the left is the modified DA decock sear, on the right is a new one. You don't have to file or grind much to disable it.
Back to the range. We are now single action, so load the gun place safety ON (that's down on a 3913) draw from holster, and TRY to figure out how your right thumb is going to move the safety UP to the fire position. Will not happen. Finally got the safety off by reaching across the top of the slide with my left hand, using first or middle finger to pull the right side safety up, then bring the left hand around and down to obtain a proper 2 hand grip.
I put a new decocking sear in the gun and its once again "traditional double action".
