I am looking to trick out my 340pd, this will be a daily carry gun. Was wondering how to make it accept 1 piece moon clip. Also wondering if you could port a gun of this type to lessen recoil? What can I do to tickout this gun other than an Action job and lock removal?

Thanks great site, will be sending off my cylinder A.S.A.P. Anything on porting a 340pd?

Let us know how the TK Custom moonclip works out for you. Post some pics when you get it back. :)

Will Do! Also talked to magna-port and they said the recoil and muzzle rise after ported is reduced 30% +. Will Post pics after the work is completed.

My experience says that muzzle rise is reduced, but the recoil is simply redirected straight back into your hand and wrist.

ETA: I use moon clips on my game guns, but they are a very fragile carry option. They bend easily in carry type use. Subtly bent clips will still drop in the cylinder, but they'll drag on the recoil shield and tie up your gun. Speed loaders are a much more robust system. Your choice and all that, I'm just sayin...

I really like moon clips but I agree that on J & K frames they're too fragile/bendable. If there's space available on the top of the barrel "tornado?" ports are more effective than Magnaporting unless you go quad ports. Good porting does reduce recoil. Gases that would exit the barrel pushing the gun back are vented up pushing the barrel down instead. In any case the ports make the gun really loud. Questionable idea on a gun that's purpose could have you shooting it in a small area with no hearing protection. If this is a game gun you go with moon clips and ports. Different purpose.

To really get the porting to work you have to shoot some fairly hot loads. 38 specials won't give you the same effect as .357's. And fire comes out the top of the gun, so you might have to be careful for self defensive use.

ssgmac,
Personally I would not port a gun I intended to fire without ear protection as one will expereince an increase in noise upon firing. In a personnal protection scxenario you will have enough muzzle blast to contend with. Learn to shoot the gun as it is.
