I've got a 2.5 66 no dash. I've owned it for two years, and carry it daily. I got it from a retired police officer who carried it on and off duty so it's not a safe queen/collectors piece. I'm thinking of putting Meprolight sights on it. They have a front sight that replaces the red insert, and a replacement rear sight. Has anyone done this modification? Would you leave it stock?

You could leave it stock and put a set of Crimson Trace laser grips on it. That is what I did. My thinking was that you would not be able to see the night sights after the first magnum round went off at night.

I have never used a gun with CT laser sights on it. Can the laser be seen clearly and used effectively during normal daylight conditions for targets or hunting?

What would you estimate the effective and accurate range of the CT laser sights to be during daylight or low light conditions?

Thanks, Dave

Laser grips would not modify the gun and still provide a good aiming point at combat range. They will work as far as you would need to shoot in defense situations.

I'm not interested in laser grips. I'm thinking more of sights that can be picked up quicker. I've seen the Meprolights on a couple of revolvers and liked them.

For an honest opinion, a 2 1/2 inch barrel probably isn't what you really want for a hunting revolver. It could be done in a pinch, survival or woods carry for SD, but you'd do yourself and the game you're hunting, a favor if you instead used something with a 6 inch barrel. 4 inch at a minimum.
A laser for hunting, that might not be legal anyway.

Umm, don't mean to be rude, but where did you get the hunting revolver idea from? My 66 is my daily concealed carry revolver.

Oh, haha, I don't know. I was reading threads on the Model 66 when I did that, one of which was asking about this...call it a senior moment, nothing untypical for me...lets see, did I remember to put my shirt on right side out today?

To your original post-

I don't have tritium night sights on a revolver, but I do on several semi-autos. In daylight, they look like any other 3 dot sights, but in poor light, they do stand out. They are not super bright, but do allow you to quickly get a sight picture when its too dark to clearly see normal sights. Your revolver is not particularly rare, and as a daily carry weapon, by all means go ahead and up-date the sights. There is a reason so many police depts. have switched to them..

As long as it doesn't require physical modification to that fine gun you have....what does it hurt? Conversely if the sights were good enough for a peace officer...why change them?
