Modular Cowboy Rig

This is my largest rig to date by more than a few pieces and I’m extremely happy with the way it turned out. It consists of 5 Ruger SBH holsters, with the intention by the customer of being used with various other single actions as well which is why he requested a retention strap. I'm not a fan of many gun for one holster due to wear characteristics but the customer was insisted, and in my experience the single actions do OK using this method. He has two of each in his most popular barrel lengths to help in preventing any issues with that. Four of the five are southpaw & two are cross draw rigs as well.

Rig also has a 2.25” wide Scout style belt along with 19 caliber slides in 9 different calibers. On pistol calibers I aimed for a minimum of 6 rounds and if I could fit more in the pattern I sewed them in. The markings aren’t all attractive but each caliber is marked to help prevent confusion and stretching of loops. The exterior leather is W&C Drum Dyed Russett with natural liners. I used a light brown antique on the entire rig inside & out followed by buffing the heck out of it, letting it rest, oiling it and buffing the heck out of it again. Final finish was two coats of Feibings Leather Balm with Atom Wax and I’m VERY pleased with the finish which looks / feels awesome. My stitching is done on a Cobra Class 4 with bonded nylon thread.

All in all I know my customer will be tickled when this rig gets to Texas. Apologies for the photos as the ice didn’t want to cooperate with my normal backdrop this weekend!

While not really relevant to leather this ol' Iver Johnson marked Uberti is the revolver I learned to handgun shoot with. It's on 'loan' from my grandfather and I sure love this gun.




And I couldn't tell you why but this is my favorite combination of the group.





SO while I didn't have enough guns to cover everything offered I sure do like the way this rig turned out :)

Thanks! The beauty of it is you can add whatever you want as you go and your not tied to a caliber like with a traditional ammo belt.

How long did you work on all that?

Thanks Greg, I've been hot & heavy on it for the passed 3-4 weeks. I would guess 60 hours in it but that is probably a conservative number.

Great looking rig and outstanding workmanship!! Could you give us a price range for such a set up. I have several SAA's and hate having mulitple cartridge belts with the holsters for a particular length barrel. Your idea has a lot of potential!!

Hi Peyton, as this rig sits optioned it would run $1,700. Price can go up or down depending on options, it just depends what exactly your looking for.

What holds the holsters in position or do they free slide on the belt?

Free Slide----Old School Style, I would bet.
3 or 4 inch belt loops ?

William has it right, free slide. The belt tunnel is molded to fit the actual belt so it comes in around 2.25" which allows the holster to 'bite' on the belt.
