Can somebody tell me if the pistol grip back strap is supposed to be flush with the lower reciever??? It is the curved portion on the upper end of the pistol grip.
I have the Mag-Pul MOE version and can't tell from other pic's if the back strap has a small gap between it and the reciever.
Thanks.

Seb5thman, on a full size 5.56/.223 AR lower receiver that answer would be a big YES.. But on the M&P 15/22, they didn't make the lower receiver the exact same size as the full size, therefore there is an space and it kinda floats. I have the MOE on mine and I'm looking into filling it with some kind of wedge, paint it flat black, and make it look full. It doesn't affect the grip at all.. Good luck.

Aceman, from the side it looks OK, but when looking at it from the back the grip has a pretty good size gap. I haven't noticed that on the full size AR's, so wasn't sure if this was a defect.
Thanks for the input.

Hey Lian, thanks, I saw it on Brownells, but it says "Not compatable with MOE".. did you do it and does it work on the M&P15/22 with the MOE grip???? If you say it does, I'm going to order it... Can you post a pic of it.. Thanks was gonna make my own... great stuff comes from great guys on great forums.. Thanks.

Oh, right haha. I completely forgot my pistol grip has that gap. Has no affect on performance and my hand covers it so I don't even realize it's there. I highly recommend you disregard it, don't spend any money to fix the gap.

I've got the Miad grip on my rifle and did put the wedge in to fill the gap, it fit great and also holds the detent spring in place. In my humble opinion it looks far better than with the gap......................

Mine also had the gap, so I just replaced the grip with a Hogue grip. It doesn't have the curved part at the top, but I don't miss that at all! :D

mine has the same gap, i just live with it. you could fill it up with epoxy.

I like the way it looks with the gap. I just wanted to make sure there wasn't a defect with the grip, but it is seated properly so I figured it was designed, or lack or a design, that way.
Thanks for the info.

Don't blame Magpul on this gap, S&W desiged this to be as close to the real AR15 but in now way sold it as the LOWER RECEIVER is 100% Mil-Spec just like the AR15 5.56 full size. Parts will fit, stock, VFG, MBUIS etc. but it is truely it's own receiver. S&W didn't want someone attaching a HIGH POWER upper to the lower to make an ASSAULT rifle, since ARs are modular in nature, so the dimenisons are different were it comes to the lower receiver of the 15/22... Smart for S&W for sure..
