This is an odd topic for a gun forum but you guys usually have some good ideas. My lawn, and most of the neighborhood, is overrun with moles. My lawn is like walking on a sponge because of the tunnels. I have tried the traps, castor oil spray, poisoned worms and putting smoke bombs down their tunnels. Nothing seems to work. Anyone with experience with these critters got any advice? Many thanks.

Had a combination of moles an voles some time back. Had an old fellow tell me to put a stick of Juicy Fruit gum in each hole. I tried it and before you know it they were gone.

We have similar issues in the High Desert. ACE Hardware has a granular product in a yellow bottle (I THINK its called Mole Away or some such). Seems to work well in this area. Good luck!

Usually anything that will kill off the earth worms will control the moles too. There are a number of lawn foods that are advertised to control moles. Also I have had good results with lawn & decorations such as pin wheels, wind vane, ETC. to provide noise or vidration in the ground. A small amount of vibration will often drive out the worms & without them, the moles will leave.

I have never tried these methods in your part of the country, so before spending any money, there is free profesional advice right there in your city. Contact;

Pump a Reasonable amount of Propane gas into Mole hole wait 1-2 minuets then drop in M-80, that will get them every time, just remember you gotta clear the area kinda fast.

Breaking News!
A Tulsa OK man was arrested today on charges of Domestic terrorism.
A person identified only as "27 Man" was being held on charges of conspiracy to obtain expolsives, detonation of a weapon of mass destruction, and various weapons violations.
When asked for comments, his only reply was, "They told me it'd work!".
General Attorney Holder was reported as saying "We have removed another dangerous terrorist off the streets today", and went on to state that He, along with the help of D.H.S. secretary of the Department of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano, were confident that this was the end of another terrorist cell working within the borders of the United States of America.
"Another great victory for us" was his parting statement.

Old Bears solution is really one of the best, and will get rid of them.
If you can't do that, get up early in the morning when they're most active and wait for them to open up a new hole.
When they do, flood their burrow through an older hole with water and they'll usually pop up out of the most recent hole.
Stand by with bat/airgun/dawg and enjoy.
Note:
This will not work if it's an extensive system they've built.

?? I have always heard and or been told ! that if you take away the moles food source the will leave the area !!
but silver bears idea sound like more fun!!

And the mole's food source is grubs.

Grub-X will take them out.

Accept no substitute.

I have moles as well . Not much fun to try and get rid of . I had an Elkhound once that new how to get them but as has been mentioned . My yard looked like the hogs got to it .But was fun to watch . I had a wood chuck once who thought he was safe until the M80s started raining in like depth charges . Never seen him again after that . Live in town so could not pick him off . This was more fun anyway .

Take a look out the window in the early a.m.. Look for birds on yours or neighbors lawn. That's where the grubs or worms are. It will take an effort by all to get rid of the stuff moles are eating.

Victor Out of Sight traps

Howdy,
I have been using the Victor "Out of sight" mole traps.
I can't say enough good things about them.
When I see a new run I set the trap and cover it with a upside down dish pan. Stomp down the run on both sides of the pan and when you see the run pushed back on one side of the dish pan it will be time to empty the trap.
Best trap I have found.
Good luck
Mike

I could send Simone out, she is HELL on moles/voles. But believe me the yard would suffer as well. Note TAIL hanging out of her mouth.

Vole in my mouth? No! Not me.

I use traps here in my fields to stay on top of them. But it's an everyday job about 8 months out of the year. And at times it's tough to lay the traps just right if their tunnel system allows them to bypass. Then I use the poisoned grain...which I hate to use.

I agree though ...get rid of their food source and they leave.

You can go on e-bay and look for mole traps. There's a company that sells them, which also sells a fumigation device that produces
sulpher (dioxide) I think. At any rate, stuff one of these products
into the run, lit, and cover end of run with a rock to help seal-in the
goodness. I'm getting ready to apply this method again; have used it twice prior with great results. No moles for years.
Don't let the dog around while you do it. You'll be amazed at all the places where smoke comes out of the ground.
I've got the name and address of the supplier if you want to call
them. TACC1

Blujax01 is right. Moles' favorite food are grubs. Get rid of the grubs and you'll get rid of the moles. This thread jarred a memory of my grandpa. My grandparents had quite a few acres, some they rented to a local farmer, some was an old apple orchard, and some was a nice yard next to the house. They had a problem with moles, and I remember grandpa putting "poison peanuts" in the holes. Not sure what the poison peanut was exactly. Probably strychnine or some such thing that you can't get today. Good luck with your mole problem. They sure can ruin a nice lawn.

Pour about a half pint of diesel fuel in each hole and tunnel. I don't know if it gets on their fur and irritates their skin. Or if they just hate the smell. But the ones in my yard went away. I had tried everything else traps, poison, water, etc. I was almost ready to give up and call them pets.

I once used a mole "skewer". You set it over one of their tunnels and when they go through the tunnel it trips a mechanism and the skewer drops on them. It takes a lot of moles to have a decent barbeque, though. :)

I've noticed our German Shepherd pup digging around the yard. I think he's found some of the critters.
