I could not have been more surprised to open the news and find 4 people were murdered, shot to death, in Anaconda, MT yesterday. The dude below is on the run:

We are a part of the US and have our problems, the same as most. Family of the shooter says he has mental problems and may not know where and when he is.

If I were 40 years old, from where his truck was left, I could travel going North to the Canadian Border, West to the Oregon desert, South to Ogden Utah and SE to central Wyoming with the rifle I had and a box of 20 shells. I would not expect to see any other person unless I wanted to. A fishing pole, fly or spinning, and a box of matches and I would eat very well. A month from now during bow season that would not be the case. Right now, seeing a tent would only be a chance for plunder.
This is on the edge of remote, heavily timbered country. As long as he stays off the Continental Divide trail there wouldn't be much foot or horse traffic unless headed to a backcountry lake. There are also some cabins close that would take 3 weeks to report a break in.
The good news is that he doesn't appear to be thinking sanely.

The Montana State Hospital is only a few miles from where the shooting took place. Just saying.

It would seem he's not dressed/prepared for a long trip. Did he get home (next door) to equip himself before the SWAT team cleared it?

All news reports have been claiming he has a long white beard.

It's no more disturbing in Montana than it is in a state park in Arkansas, an office building in NYC, or a typical weekend in Chicago. Society is no longer circling the drain...we are now past the trap.

I deal with MH issues every day. Boils down to money. No one wants to foot the bill.

The greatest disservice to this country was making it that a person has to be "a danger to themselves or someone else" to get them help. I understand the mental health facilities back in the day were not good but we are doing such harm to these people now. It is only a matter of time until they are a danger to themselves or someone else. This is a case in point.

If the energy people use to get rid of firearms was used to get people mental health, sometimes involuntary help, then this problem would get solved.

No one wants to foot the bill for problems due to other people's misconduct.
In the "Bad Old Days" the idea was if someone refused to show consideration for others then they had to be isolated until they were either "cured" or learned to behave.
Ronald George presided over the trial of Angelo Buono, one the Hillside Stranglers. When asked if people like Buono should be declared "mental cases" Ronald George replied:
"Why should we label someone as insane when they refuse to live by society's rules ?"
