I have a question about S&W 357s that come from the factory ready for moon clips, can you shoot 357/38 in them without the clips?

thanks

My 627’s cylinder came from the factory cut for moon clips, the clips were included with the gun. I never have used them, never had any problems either.

I've got 4 S&W 357's cut for moon clips. All shoot 38's fine with/ without clips. That said, I have read of others having issues without clips with certain ammo on but forget the specifics. You might try a search here for those discussions.

I have Not had any problems with my 627 as well with or without the Moonclips in place. 38spl is my fav ammo to shoot thru it needless to say. Finally got the cast off of my r/hand and wrist which broke both two months ago roughly now. Much easier to shoot without it.

Welcome to the FORUM! I have a 686-6, 5" Pro Series. It is cut for moon clips. For range use, and how I shoot, they are un-necessary. You don't need them. Bob

The raised outer rim supports the non clipped rounds, while the recessed inner part gives clearance for the moon clips. If a large chamfer is done on the chamber mouths, they won't work anymore with non clipped rounds because the seat for the rim to headspace on has been removed. Then they will only work with clips so the rims can headspace on the moon clips.
