When I purchased my 986, I bought 500 rounds of Starline nickel plated 9mm.
Quickly discovered my mistake, and after trying many different brands, finally settled on W-W.
Over the years, I'd collected a hundred or so clips of various types. Most of them work well, but maybe 15% don't allow enough "wiggle room" to chamber properly.
Interestingly the most expensive "TK" brand are the worst.
All the others are unbranded.
I want to purchase some more, and want to be certain they will be compatible with WW brass.
Wondering if anyone out there can recommend a brand or brands found to work reliably with WW.

thanks.

I can't speak to the compatibility with WW brass, but I use RIMZ polymer moon clips in my 929 for competition. I tested them with various brands of brass and they worked well with all brands tested (I don't recall if WW was among them).

The "secret" to them working well with everything I've tested is that, due to the thickness the case is not only supported by the extractor groove, but it also surrounds the case head - think rebated cylinder. Here is a picture of a 929 clip that clearly shows the rebate...

I am currently using them with Federal factory 150 gr SynTech ammo, which uses a flat nose bullet profile - no problem. Eliminates cartridge "flop" but still easily chambers those 8 rounds in my 929 (chambers are chamfered).

Here's a link...

RIMZ 986.. 9 mm

You can buy a small quantity to test. You can thank me later. LOL

Adios,

I shoot 45 ACP revolvers and am happy with the moon clips from the original source, Ranch Products in Malinta, Ohio. As I said, 45 ACP, not sure how that translates to 9mm.

Best of luck finding what you need.
