I have run multiple searches for this question, if it has already been asked, please excuse me. Is it possible to use moon clips on a stock model 629 N frame 44 magnum?

Thank you for the replies. Now to buy a single moon clip and give it a go.
Without having the cylinder machined, specifically, for moon clips, it will not work. I believe that TK Custom has a video on their website, of machining a cylinder for moon clips. With a revolver chambered for a rimmed round (i.e..44 mag) they leave a shoulder around the outside circumference of the cylinder so that it can still be used without moon clips.

IMHO, you are better off using a speed loader, like the Safariland Comp I, that holds the rounds rigidly. Moon clips are great for shorter, nose heavy cartridges. The longer the cartridge gets, the more "jiggle" is introduced, making it harder to speedily align the rounds with the charge holes.

Adios,

I have 2 629's that I have had TK Customs cut for moonclips. They work fine, actually the .44 mag clips work better then the .357 clips, they aren't as fussy about case brands. The .44's are a close second to .45 acp in respect to actual use. Fat cartridges going into big holes are the key. The length doesn't really factor in. If you reload you must use a Lee factory crimp die which resizes the case after the seating and crimping operation.

Turnaround for the machining is about 7-10 days and they do a great job. I've had several cylinders in various calibers cut by them. Far superior to speed loaders.

I use speeder loaders and strips with my 629's. I recently bought a Ruger Redhawk 357 with an 8-round cylinder, it came with a couple of moon clips. Curiosity led me to buy a moon clip loader/unloader and more moon clips. I carry a 44 magnum in a chest rig when I am wandering around the mountains, I have speed loader strips in a small belt pouch.
I don't modify my guns other than sights or grips; I adhere to if it isn't broke don't mess with it.

Thank you for your replies and advice!

A company called TK customs does machine work to recess the extractor star of any revolver to accept standard moon clips. I don't really think you NEED to go that way, as simple speed loaders work nearly as well.
