Got my first Mora Knife!

20171228_174145-1.jpg

Made in beautiful and safe Sweden, NOT China or some other slave labor hell hole. I LOVE it! It's the "Companion" knife. SUPER sharp and shiny right out of the box and came with a sheath! $15 on Amazon with free shipping. I smeared mineral oil on it as it's a carbon steel blade, which makes for easy sharpening. Should make an ideal campsman's knife and for all around use.

Totally worth it. LOVE MY MORA!!! :D

Moras are great! They are inexpensive, light, and practical to a fault. I've used them to start fires, and to sharpen them all you need is a few swipes against a hard stone. I've got several. Keep em in my tackle box, toolbox, and all of our vehicles. There's even a couple in the kitchen drawer.

Great knives, but watch that sheath. If you sit down while it's on your belt, the sheath will be forced outward from your body from the bottom and the clip becomes permanently bent out to the point where it is no longer secured. I found this out the first time I carried mine in the field this season -- took a comfortable seat under a big oak for a couple of hours, stood up to move, heard a slight noise which turned out to be the knife and sheath falling to the ground. Now I carry knife and sheath in a coat pocket.

I hate to hang any knife on a belt, in part for the reason you cite. Moras are light enough just to drop them in a pocket (I usually wear baggy pants). Or, you can just hang one from the button on your overalls, the way the Swedes do. Or, you can use a carabiner as a dangler.

I discovered Opinel knives over forty years ago, and have been using them ever since. It took me almost forty years to discover Moras. I rarely carry a Mora, but hardly a day passes that I don’t find a use for one.

I have introduced many a friend to the world of knives, using Mora and Opinel, giving one of each, both in Carbon (of course a discussion follows about the proper care and use of said knives, etc).

To the OP, welcome to the club, I am sure you will be purchasing many more! ;)

You all are talking Mora knives up. I'm going to have to sharpen my old dive knife up and see what it can do. I'd carry it on the inside of my left calf.

Edit: I've had this knife since approximately 1992. Basically I carried it while scuba diving to cut away entanglements and to stick in places I would not stick my hand. It was a nice little knife. After lunch I pulled out my Spyderco Sharpmaker. This knife took a very sharp edge with very little effort. I never thought much about it before. I like it.

I bought that same knif for myself last Christmas, and one for each of my kids stockings. All are different colors. Great knives especially for the money.

At work I use one that has a chisel point for scraping gaskets. Real handy.
