Morons that answer ads

I have two Remington 700 varmint rifles listed on a predator/varmint hunting site. I answered any and every question possible to ask, specified trade desires, and cash prices. Face to face sale, no shipping due to the weight. I offered to meet within 45 minutes of home in any direction, or between home and our home in the north Georgia mountains.

I have not been offered anything I asked for in trade, but just about anything else you could think of. Riding mowers, a sailboat, other firearms, scuba gear, a basket case H-D Sportster, a POA (large pony), 1985 Jeep Cherokee, and 2/3 the cash value of the rifles. One interested party insists I meet him at the Bass Pro Shop in Macon, GA (a 4.75 hour, 200+ mile round trip). Surely public education is not so bad that reading and comprehension skills are no longer taught?

I am going to delete the ad. I may even give up predator/varmint hunting, now that I see who else may be in the woods at the same time.
 
People will ask because the worst thing that will happen is that you'll say NO. In my business I hear it all the time. :rolleyes:
 
Stupid works both way's! Picture only ads (Lousy pic) with nothing else, or .357 for sale, no pic, price, brand, location. bye the way i have a cement mixer id trade for a varmit rifle:D

Doesn't seem like a big problem to deal with... All it takes is clicking the reply button with a "no way" or "no thanks".

I don't see making an offer outside of the stated conditions is so stupid or any worse than asking if someone would take a lower price than posted. But that's just me.
 
You think that s bad try advertising a decent car/truck for sale and you will find some real winners. Good thing breathing is an automatic function or most of those people would die real young!

Most of those people have a hard time walking and talking, throw in chewing gun also and their totally messed up!
 
Got a for sale sign in my truck. The price is written in big, black magic marker. $4950
What's the first question asked? "How much will you take for it?"
Usual reply, "$4950"
I wouldn't mind if they asked if there were any room for negotiation, but to automatically assume I have to take less just to sell it right now to him is ridiculous.

Oh yeah, that. I keep meaning to change that. That was the price yesterday, before I put gas and oil in it. Let me know what you want to do soon. Tomorrow I'm having the tires rotated.
 
Will you take a Fender guitar amp in trade? It's not working right now, probably just needs new caps.

Will you take a Honda 4x4 ORV that needs a new transmission? There's a transmission listed in XXX CraigsList ad that would fit.

Will you take a 72 inch plasma screen TV. Not working, probably just a cold solder joint.

I could throw in 25 plastic 5 gallon buckets.

I could throw in 12 used chain link fence posts with concrete footings already attached.


Those are all offers I've heard, many more than once.

I simply don't reply.

These folks aren't unique to Georgia. I get the same grief on the odd occasion I try to sell something. A fainting goat is the most recent interesting trade offer that comes to mind. Actually, my kids were a little upset I didn't take that trade.:confused:
 
I'd complain, but I've taken guns I wasn't asking for on trade before. It was definitely in my favor and something that really appealed to me too.

Understand the aggravation but that is part of public selling. It's one reason dad never sold a vehicle privately. He always said the trade in value if under was his payment to avoid stupid people. See more wisdom in that man every day!
 
Definitely not a Georgia problem. I have the same issue in Oregon. When I post an add for sale, I am very clear what I'm asking, what I want and whether I'm willing to trade. I also make it clear where I'll meet and what kind of ID I expect them to have. I've had several sales fall through after someone turned out to be lying or tried to change the terms of sale at the last minute. Just some bad folks out there is all.
 
I saw a poster discreetly hidden behind a counter in a business I won't name. It was a photo of a turkey ranch--hundreds of turkeys, with a couple in the foreground looking dim as only domestic turkeys can, and the slogan, "The customer is always right."

For some reason this thread made me think of that. :D
 
The pony was the last straw. A POA, or Pony of the Americas, is a cross between a Shetland stallion and a Appallosa mare. Besides being pretty big, it was 16 years old. I bet my neighbors would of loved that in the backyard.
 
Nobody listens any more.Shop where l work received some .22 ammo recently.While l am waiting on a customer guy spies the ammo and asked how much.When telling him the price($29.95) l mention we are limiting customers to 1 brick.He looks at me and says OK I`ll take three and pulls out 100.00.What part of what l said was so hard to understand.
 
I stopped running for sell ads because of the ignorant. I am on a number of forums, and scan the "Wanted" sections. But even this way it can be a pain to work with interested buyers. They will request pictures, which is obviously necessary. But then they never respond. "Got the pics. No thanks." Nothing. No respect.

I feel your pain. I've sold a couple vehicles on craigslist. My ads are VERY specific: "I know the air conditioner doesn't work, it's built into the price." "If you don't have $X,XXX amount of cash, I will not let you drive off in this truck." "You must speak and understand the English language, I do not speak Spanish." "Seriously, don't waste my time."

Why will you not ship.? You work for the USPS, its less expensive to ship than drive $45 miles.;)

Try ODT , it's a Georgia site!!! Really interesting responses , we joke about a sick Cornish game hen being offered in trade!! It's just the world we live in, and the people who vote for , guess who!!!!

You folks are just too picky, and expect too much from the buying public. I've been on both ends of deals, and I know there is a game to be played. If you don't like the offer, just laugh and say no. Don't be offended when someone lowballs you. It is part of the game. I have made lowball offers before and had to get off the money, because the guy took it. I sold a Model 28-2 a couple of years back. I had a specific list of what I would trade for. A DPMS AR wasn't on the list. I had a guy offer me a nib/unfired DPMS carbine with some ammo, several extra magazines, all sorts of other extras. I didn't want it, and told him so. A young man who was working for me told me I was an idiot. He said it was at least a $1000 package. (This was during the panic.) I reluctantly made the trade, even though I didn't want it. Three days later, I traded the carbine for a Kimber Pro Carry. (Not a Pro Carry II, but an earlier, supposedly better one) I wound up with maybe $450 in the Kimber, including gas I bought for the meets.

Trading is a game. Don't be too serious about it. Don't get offended by stupid, or lowball offers. And don't get offended when I tell you you are crazy when you make a lowball offer to me. ;)

I once advertised a 4" drilled water well for sale on ODT. I said it had been cut up into 3 foot fence posts, just ready to place where you need a fence.

Had several inquiries. :rolleyes:
 
Usually negotiation is part of the game. I can haggle with the best of 'em. Actually enjoy it too. :D
However, sometimes you run into that word FIRM. Ok, I understand that the price is firm with no haggling. But I will ask and confirm that this is true. Sometimes folks change their mind. Don't hurt to ask. :rolleyes:

So last year I had a car for sale. Had it listed at a fair price followed by FIRM! Whenever I got a call on it I emphasized that the price was FIRM. No negotiation. Not just one, but three different people came to look at it and then tried to low ball me.
Now that I find annoying. :mad:

Why should that annoy you? Those folks came and offered you money for your car! Maybe not enough, but money, nonetheless.

Again, that is part of the game. Laugh at them and tell them they wasted a trip. I have come off a firm price before, and I have stuck to the price, too. I have made lowball offers, and I have been laughed at, cussed, and have bought items at my price. None of the time was I offended or annoyed.
 
Offering live stock in trade, especially something that would be a huge monthly expense, to a city dweller, is just plain ignorant.

I do not want to ship these as they are heavy, and thus require a fairly heavy duty container, both these factors add to shipping costs, which most buyers think the seller should be willing to absorb.

I prefer someone looks over an item carefully before a purchase and either walks away or walks away happy. I have had a Howa and a Savage returned to several weeks after they were sold, because the buyers 1) moved out of state, did not need it. 2) found something he liked better. Then there was a shotgun of some sort returned to me in error. The Savage buyer used the box I had mailed to him to ship a shotgun he sold, and that bozo shipped it to me "Return To Sender".

Before I pulled the ad I got offered a RC helicopter by one guy and a astronomer quality telescope by another goober. It is good to know I am not alone in attracting these types.
