Help...what's some good stuff to put on my little girl? The stuff you put on their neck is good for tics, fleas, but not worth a )&&^()*&*& for mosquitos.

She's got knots all over her head where she's been bit. I went out to call her in just a few minutes ago, and she had them all over her head. I brushed them away, but she'd all ready been bit several times.

They ran me off this morning, when I went out in the yard to clean up her poop. I got some picked up, but had to almost come running back inside, or they were going to finish their breakfast on me.

Id find out if its safe to use deet on a dog.I always hated the stuff until I got west Nile.

The vet office is closed now...I don't think you can use Deet on dogs...Boy they are bad now....

I'm like you arjay, I don't even want to chance getting West Nile...There hasn't been cases of it around this area so far, but that doesn't mean it's not possible....

I gave her a Equate pill to help her with her itching..Hope that will help her some...

I've always used a spray called Bronco II that is for horses and dogs. I have used it for years on my hunting beagles and it works for all kind of insects. I buy it at local hardware stores or Tractor Supply. I been known to spray it on my hunting clothing also for ticks.

Have tried those propane powered gizmos (not sure what their called)? I think they produce CO2 and are supposed clear out a decent sized area.

Dont know where you are located, but I'd be more worried about the heartworms those mosquitos carry. I spray my dogs down with Happy Jack flea and tick spray. It doesn't last too long but it works while it does. You definitely have to be careful with bug spray and dogs though...the two generally dont mix.

I use Mosquito Halt for the horses. It’s the best I’ve tried for keeping the mosquitoes, flies and gnats off. The horse solution may be too strong for your smaller pets but they also make a special Mosquito Halt for dogs but I haven’t used it. If the Halt for dogs works as well as the stuff they make for horses it should do the trick.

I would love to get some bats here. Unfortunately I live in a seniors' apartment complex mostly inhabited by old ladies who sincerely believe bats will get in their hair, suck their blood, etc.

Some of these old bats who live here will do exactly that, though thank heaven they can't fly. But they would be at my door with torches and pitchforks if I put up a bat house. Then go sit in the gazebo I call the Nerve Center and complain that the skeeters are eating them up.

Please don't ignore this message about heartworms.
They can kill your dog in just a couple of years. :(

They are easily prevented with several types of pills or injections. :):)

Ok,,,Deet is a No..No..The other stuff that's been mentioned...I'll have to get to the farm store either later today or tomorrow...BUT...for the good news....In my other post about winter coming early......I hope, I hope.....

It's supposed to snow out in the western part of the state tonight...Should get down to middle or upper 30's here...I just wish we could get about three good days and nights of a hard freeze...That would end the mosquitoes.

As for bats...I had some around for a while, Don't know where they went????? I'd leave a night light going outside, to attract the bugs for them.

That Equate..the allergy relief stuff helped her with her itching...Vet also gave me some EnteDerm to put on the bites, to keep the infection down..

When she comes in, I wipe her down with baby wipes right away. The baby wipes have a mild bit of alcohol in them. So if there's a bug that I can't see, then the alcohol will do it. They have a scent to them, that she doesn't like. Not to use straight 70% rubbing alcohol on her...Too hard on her skin.

The knots on her lit'l head from the bites, have went down considerably.

Rem 3200, she gets her heart worm pill, and the Frontline on her neck the first of the month...Easier for me to remember...

How about spraying your yard, would probably help some.

Won't help..the creek is less than 20 yards behind the house. Beyond that is the woods...(don't dare go there because of the Chiggers and ticks). The pond is about 2000 yards from the house. Plus with all the rain we've had the last month.

Locusts are coming on strong???? Hopefully this wet and cold holds them down some. :)

Sometimes I think my next move would be to the South Pole...No biting bugs there that I know of.....No spiders or snakes either!!!!!:D

My dog might not like it there though.:(
