Most accurate .22 LR rifle?

I like the Izmash Biathlon too. VERY accurate, particularly with the Weaver K-10 it wears now. The trigger pull is superb.

I was never into dedicated match rifles so all my 22s have been sporter and field grade rifles. My most accurate rifle use to be the CZ 455 LUX which is made like the Winchesters of old. The title now goes to the Izmash Biathlon Basic, the Russian gems are crazy accurate with fantastic triggers. I like my BB in 22 LR so much I bought another in 22 WMR which is just as accurate. The toggle action is short, fast and positive and the way they crown their barrels is insane.

Very interesting rifles. Is the bolt on this type spring-loaded, or does it have to be returned to battery manually?

John

The most accurate rifle I own is my Kimber 82 Government. It won't quite shoot with the 52s and 40Xs but on a good day it is pretty close.
It tends to shoot 5 shots into two very closely spaced groups that run around 5/8s combined at 50 yards. Don't know what would cause that?

But my pride and joy is my Remington 552 semi auto. It ain't no target rifle but it shoots 1/2" groups at 25 yards with most any ammo. Most 552s don't shoot nearly that well. Wicked squirrel medicine!

The bolt is manually operated; no springs. However the bolt throw is very short and doesn't take much effort; a biathlon shooter can really get the rounds off quickly with one. Despite the name, I'v never seen a real Izmash biathlon target rifle; I suppose they make them, but aren't widely distributed since few of us shoot the biathlon course. If anyone has a real Izmash biathlon target rifle (iron sights, slings, muzzle cover, extra magazine carrier, etc), I'd sure like to see a picture.

While helping my B-I-L find the tightest grouping brand of bullets using his 40x I was able to shoot a .24 inch 5 shot group using of all things Federal auto match, the Geco shot next best at .28 for 5 shots. I can't quite convince him to let me have it even though I did out shoot him. Then this last weekend we both shot apple seed him using a Browning T-bolt and Norma ammo he shot rifleman at least 3 times with that during the weekend. Me I tried to shot his gun but the scope wasn't really set up for me and I couldn't get into position comfortably so I went back to my 10-22 that is mostly stock except a Clark trigger and extractor. I've had multiple 2 bullets in one hole during the weekend using Federal Champion. It doesn't like the expensive stuff. Go figure.

1956 BRNO model 3

It has the original BRNO factory sights on, but I usually shoot it with a 12x scope. If you shell out for good ammo and the wind is cooperating it will average in the .3s.

Sonce this turned into mostly a show - and - tell thread and I had advocated Anschütz 54s, here we go.

My boys and I own a number of different 22 rifles, but the most accurate are the CZ452 bolt rifles.

I have a neat little Zastava bolt rifle, but I haven't shot it. I'm guessing that it would shoot pretty well.

The Zastava's are great little shooters. Imported by Charles Daly and called the Superior II. Remington called it the Model 5 and I think it was also called the CD99 at some point.
Bought mine and was very impressed with the metalwork but the wood, not so much. Refinished the furniture and is a great field .22.
Mine is the one on the left, the one on the right is my wife's. Other than mounting the scope, she won't let me touch it.

My little KKJ is the most accurate .22 I've ever encountered.

They are a phantastic light hunting rifle! I gave mine to my youngest son to be used for that purpose.

A model 3 must be one less than a model 4, so I need $200 boot to trade. :D Nice model 3.

That's one way to look at it Charlie- another way is you should start by post some pictures of your model 4.

From my stable; Iron sights would be my 1922 Springfield MII
Scoped would be a stock Ruger 77/22

Here is another tack driver, a Mossberg 144-LS, I just pulled out of the safe to photograph and sell. I wish my tri-focal eyes were up to standard to be able to take advantage of the factory peep sights on this rifle. I was originally going to "sportsterize" it into a tree rat gun, but couldn't bring myself to mess with it. I have been able to get 1/2 inch groups at 50 yards with it. I am sure someone with sharper eyes could do better.

22rifle accuracy

I trained with a model 52 bull barrel target rifle before I got my Anschutz in the late 60s. I was lucky enough to qualify in international shooting competitions. With Eley Tenex, both rifles will constantly obliterate the 10s and the Xs.

I would have to say I am most accurate with my 1967 Marlin 39a golden. She can hit a chuck at 100 yards. 2/2 this summer.

After all of these beautiful rifles, here is my contribution. A Winchester 52 Sporter reintroduction by Miroku (or Miruko). Weaver scope and some personal trigger work. It likes Wolff ammo, but does almost as good with Federal Champion #502 ordinary over the counter ammo. Great rifle to practice for the big center fires, as it is same size and basic weight.

I have an Ishmash Biathlon 7-2.
Toggle action, bull barrel, hair trigger. This unusual Russian rimfire is the mist accurate 22LR I've ever shot, 3 inch groups or less at 100 yards with run of the mill ammunition. Will premium grade ammo make it better? I assume something will.
Nailed a small woodchuck with it earlier this year, imagining for a spot just behind the eye on the skull, hitting about a half inch off that mark. Range I carefully paced to 69-70 yards, twice. This rifle does not miss soda cans or stationary clays at 100 yards. I have a straight 6X Leupold on it.
Not planning on parting with this rifle any time soon.
