This article was in a recent Cabela's Outfitter Journal (I retyped it in part):

Colt Walker Pistol Fetches $920,000

A like new 1847 Colt Walker .44 black-powder revolver, sold with its original powder flask, set a record at a recent James D. Julia firearms auction. The rare, historic Colt Whitneyville-Walker pistol, made for use in the Mexican-American War, sold for $920,000, inclusive of the 15-percent buyer's premium. According to Auction Central News, the sale price represents the most expensive single firearm ever sold in North America and is believed to be the most expensive ever sold in the world. Fewer than 170 of the pistols are believed to exist. This one was in pristine condition.

I had two of them. I traded one for a Fraser firearms .25 auto and I use the other for a canoe anchor.

For reasons unknown to me I get the Julia color brochure they put out in advance of their auctions, couple times a year I think. The stuff they get on consignment makes me weep bitter tears.

I passed on that one, I'm saving my money for when they auction off the one I really want, the 16"/50 (40.6 cm) Mark 7.

I'm a bit concerned about accuracy, though, apparently they only shoot to about 4 minutes of angle.

I was at the Greg Martin Auction in SF three years ago when they sold a couple of Winchester 1873's. One sold for around $350,000 and the other around $600,000. They also sold a Singer 1911 that fetched around $35,000. The only thing I purchased was an original Hepburn action which I have had made into a very nice BPCR rifle chambered in 38-50 Hepburn. It is fun to watch the big money boys spend their dough.
