Most important lessons learned from carrying?

Unless you love paying lawyers and dealing with years of hassle, carry but actively try to AVOID using your firearm. If a situation feels "off", get out. Walking away (if it's a viable option) is cheaper than shooting someone. De-escalate wherever possible. Seek to avoid confrontation. Be Gandhi, not Rambo. Shooting someone should always be an absolute last resort. You can win a civil suit after a legit shooting and still end up bankrupt.

Some excellent advice. Learned this as a kid taking martial arts classes.

I agree. You could get through everything fairly hassle free then one day down the road, the deceased's spouse/family member/fellow gang member shoots you in the back of the head one day while you're eating lunch in a restaurant as payback.

I, as well as others with continue to carry what is good for the occasion. You carry whats good for you........And we'll all be happy-prepared and safe.

BTW SC has open carry too.

I would NEVER want to be hickok45......He's just a shill for Bud's Guns in Tenn.

Nothing wrong with what Hickok does.
Bud’s is a sponsor that loans him a large variety of different guns that make his reviews more interesting. We all benefit.

I would trade places with him any day.

That is a waste of the person you are. I've never wished I was anyone else. For what it's worth to avoid thread drift I will say that one thing I've learned is that there is no absolute source of wisdom in firearms. I take bits and pieces from here on the forums, YouTubers, gun club, etc to form my own style that works best for me. Situations with carry and defense are so personal and unique that it is best (at least in my opinion) to have a variety of sources that inspire your own unique approach.

anyone else notice on the longer threads its usually not worth reading the last pages...
it seems 2 people always get into a pissing match..
then there are those that drift off subject and 2 people get into a discussion off topic...
you read a page and there are 2 good points on topic from someone that knows what they are talking about..
remember most post are opinion and other opinions are just as important (sometimes) as yours.
Again I will say what I have learned after carrying and trying to make myself better, learning what to keep in the tool box and what to throw away can be a real challenge.

If you have a indoor gun range near you some will when the range is slow may allow you to pay one rental fee plus there ammo and shoot a number of handguns with in say a 9mm . So its possible to get some basic trigger time in with different handguns, just understand you can't expect to shoot them well right off just pay attention how it feels in your hand and even how it points down range .

You never know You might find the G-26 is great or not for you and find handgun you never thought of will fill your needs well .

Your carry comfort has a lot to do with your holster choice along with how and where on your body you try to carry . One site that might help with handgun comparisons is Handgun Hero linked below . today

Many pistols can be bought with a thumb safety and the P365 is one of them but a 6lb striker trigger pull is not a lite trigger pull ether so maybe the trigger pull is a head game for you at this time do to your time shooting revolver with DA long heavy triggers .

No matter what you carry, i.e. revolver, semi-auto, flintlock; and no matter how you carry it, e.g. IWB, OWB, pocket carry, Mexican carry, ankle holster, etc., practice drawing your weapon WEAK HAND ONLY. We often forget that our gun hand/arm may be disabled in the initial encounter and we will be forced to draw using only our weak hand. How many of us have practiced this? I do, with every firearm I carry and with every means of carry. I have been in more than one situation where I was forced by circumstance to draw with my weak hand. Will it ever happen to you? Probably not, and I pray that it never does. But we practice, or should practice, for such an eventuality.

I wrote a post on this once, concerning trying to draw my M442 from my right pocket, in a Mika holster, with my left hand. No way! Well, if I dropped trousers, I could bend over and work the pocket around to where I could get the revolver out, with difficulty. This is not how I want to be at the start of a gun fight! Maybe younger, more agile (that would be almost everyone else) folks could manage, but I doubt with much speed or grace.
Shorts are Tac 5-11 if it matters. It wouldn't for me!

Stop trying to pocket carry anything in drawstring shorts! I know that they're the most comfortable thing that you can wear on a hot/humid Summer day, but you know what isn't so comfortable? Drawing unwanted attention to yourself by printing, constantly having to hike up your shorts, or worse, having something potential slip from your pocket!

Get yourself a proper pair of 5.11 Taclite cargo shorts, a belt, and a Desantis Nemesis Pocket Holster!

Hickok got to retire a lot younger than I will. He gets to play with his own and other people’s guns with mostly other people’s ammo any time he wants, and makes a fair amount of money doing it.
I met him once a few years ago, and he seemed like a pretty decent, easy-going guy.
I think a lot of people would like to trade places with him, or at least that part of his life.

I think most of us would be a shill for any reputable distributor if they sent us lots of guns and ammo for free to test and evaluate.
I know I would. Wouldn’t you?

Always going to be that way, here and elsewhere.
