Mountain Gun does well

This will be my sidearm for wolf duty when grouse hunting with a dog in northern Minnesota. I experimented with 4 different factory loads and ended up with this (shot off a rest):

Picked it up on Gunbroker about 4 months ago. I paid on the high end, but I had been looking for awhile and so just grit my teeth and opened my wallet when I finally found one. Funny thing, the gun is so nice, I quickly forgot how much I paid.

High quality has that effect.
I bought my 586 early. One range trip gave me amnesia about the price.

My M625 Mountain Gun is a good shooter, too.

I haven't seen a Mountain Gun in .357 or .45 Colt in a long time. Not to be left defenseless in the woods, I have a 3" and 2.5" version about the same weight, and a TRR8 (5", 8 rounds) if concealment were not an issue. I do have a M29-8 Mountain Gun, which I continue to treasure.

Very nice 686 Mt Gun. That's the only Mt. gun I didn't try. I tried all of the others and kept the 657 Mt. Gun. I liked the 657 so, i bought another one. I keep asking myself why do i need two?
It's a sickness, OCD! and need has nothing to do with it. I've been
bitten by the S&W bug. I think the 686 Mt. Gun is going on the wish list.

Very nice. Although I'm a devoted blued revolver fan, I did carry a stainless Ruger Security Six for years as my back up while hunting. You have got me wanting to add a stainless Mt. Gun to the collection.

The only Wolf I've got close to was up your way, when we kayaked the Boundary Waters. We had just pushed off the shore onto a morning mist shrouded lake, and a wolf trots through camp, hugging the shore, unconcerned that we were just feet away. Unnerving when your unarmed.

The 686 Mountain Guns are not well known by most, they are one of the finest woods carry guns that was ever made.


The 657 Mountain Gun is probably the finest (but then, I might be biased a bit)
