I jusr joined the S&W family with a purchase of a 17-1. I am very pleased with it qnd can't wait to shoot it. I joined and posted because I am largely ignorant of S&W detail and lore. I was very pleased with the quality and value of the responces. Thank you, I am a member of some sport touring motorcycle forums that could learn something here! This has helped decide buy additional S&W revolvers. The only other revolver I own is a Ruger Bisley 44 mag, a great gun. Mostly I shoot target rifles, had mostly autos in pistol. But I learning appreciate revolvers more. I think I want a 586 next. What do you think, is there a better larger bore to start with?

It's all a beauty is in the eyes of the beholder thing. Personally I am not a fan of the full lug under barrel. That being said, the 586 is built on an L frame. I happen to like the N frame better (larger). My fav is the Model 28 HP. I really like the dull bluing for some unknown reason. Buying a .357 is a great idea tho. You can shoot .38 specials and .357s. The .357 rocks my boat...

Get the 586 if you like it, it won't be your last S&W revolver...
