I am ordering a Trijicon RMR for a new CORE pistol. Does anyone know if I need a special mount or does everything needed come with the pistol (which I haven't received yet).

Thanks.

Jack, please posts pics of your RMR when you get it mounted. Specifically if you can co-witness the sights.
Thanks!

Will do. It comes with taller than normal sights so it is supposed to cowitness with the RMR. Here's hoping.

I used the JPoint coupon that came with the CORE. Co-witnessed fine. But I'll replace it with an RMR duel green triangle when I find one.

It will be a couple months or so, but I plan on putting the RMR on my M&P40L CORE I just picked up Friday. The first change on this pistol will be a Apex trigger.

I just came across this forum this week and it looks good, I have been on a few other forums for the past 10 years, and this one will be visited daily when work permits.

I'm not clear on what apex parts would be an upgrade to the CORE trigger.

Chief,
Post a pic of your j-point. Hers one of the fastfire III.

Iron sights just a bit short.

Hi KB, and others,

First off let me admit I'm a newbie to both guns and this sight; so if it appears I don't know what I'm doing or saying, that might just be the case.

I picked up an M&P40L C.O.R.E. pistol last week and received my Trijicon RMR today. Tonight I attempted to install the sight but found the screws that came with it (the ones the S&W manual says to use) don't seem to be an easy fit for the gun. Started to twist one screw about 1/4 of a turn in and it felt like it was either self tapping or stripping the threads so I backed it out and stopped the install. Do you recall if the screws had a lot of resistance when first installed or should they spin right in?

Thanks everyone for any help/guidance/wisdom shared.

I dont recall how hard it was, did the screws you used have blue loctite on them? Also did you try screwing them in with out anything on? (With just the screws and nothing else). Did you closely inspect for damaged threads? Are you sure of the plate you are using? And one last question, which RMR did you get? You might have to adjust it so that the base isn't sticking below the sight as it could prevent you from mounting it correctly to the plate/gun.

Here's mine:

Thanks for the input OneJzsupra.

Nice looking gun. I especially like the pics where the gun sits atop boxes of ammo.

I purchased the RM07 adjustable LED red dot with 6.5 MOA as new on ebay.

I didn't inspect the threads all that close as I assumed they were new screws. I will look at them more closely tonight.

The screws had loctite on the middle section but not on the very tip. Could that mean they were partially screwed into something previously?

I did attempt to screw them in stand-alone and they still resisted.

I'm using the type 1 plate that came with the gun and it appears to be a perfect fit to both the gun and the Trijicon. All the holes line up and the everything fits together like clockwork; all except the 2 screws that hold everything together.

Could it be that the loctite is just performing as it's supposed to, and having no experience with loctite, I'm unfamiliar with how snug it makes the screws turn? On the other hand, I certainly do not want to strip the threads in the slide and damage the gun. I'm not opposed to ordering new screws or even taking everything in and having it professionally installed; however, the latter seem a lot like paying someone to pump my gas.

I certainly appreciate all the expertise out there.

Post of photo of the screws you are using. When you get home inspect the threads on the gun and look loctite. Where did you buy the gun? If from gunbroker chances are they might have mounted an optic to play with it and some of the loctite could be causing the issue. Also make sure you fix you trijicon if it isn't already adjusted to sit flat. If its the bottom is cause the back to not sit flat that angle alone could cause the issue.

I checked the threads on the gun and there was no loctite present. Also, each set of screws that came with the gun (for various different optic mounts) screwed into the slide without any difficulty. This told me the threads on the gun were still in good condition. I then looked at the screws that came with the trijicon under 10x magnification and it looked like the threads were being reshaped to a courser thread from my attempt to screw them into the slide. For now, I'm going to assume the screws that came with the mount are incorrect for this gun and go shopping for the correct screws. I'm out of town for a few days; but, will update this thread when I get back and have had time to see if that was really the problem.

Thanks again for the help.

I used the screws that came with the RMR... 1200 rounds later all is well and tight. Be sure an use Blue locktite on the screws and do not over tighten. Just good and snug.

been busy, busy, busy. Just to update, I contacted Trijicon about getting a new set of screws; but, haven't heard back yet. So I need to follow up with Trijicon and/or go find some screws that work. Will post an update as things develop.

Thanks everyone.
