I just finished watching Wait Until Dark, with Audrey Hepburn, Alan Arkin and Richard Crenna.
Arkin plays as Harry Roat Jr, a man possessed of a rather malevalent intelligence, he is evil incarnate. A very under appreciated performance. Who was better?

The Reverend Robt Mitchum

Howdy,
Ol' Bobby in NIGHT OF THE HUNTER and he was pretty good in CAPE FEAR too.
I miss a lot of those older actors.
Thanks
Mike

My favorite is Angela Lansbury in the Manchurian Candidate and , as mentioned before, Robert Mitchum in Cape Fear. In the remake DeNiro tried to enhance meanness physically. not Mitchum. He could just give a look and you could see cruelty.

I had to look him up

One of my favorite movie villains...

Max Schreck as Count Orlok in Nosferatu!

I LOVE silent films.

YIKES!
I remember the guy after I looked it up. I don't remember the movie but I have seen Max somewhere. CREEPY DUDE!
Book says 1922 film.
Thanks
Mike

Yep released in '22. One of my all time favorite films. Old movies are really something else. In this one, like others, night time is depicted by a blued lens. Everything looks a little darker.. but blue. Since they needed all the light they could to film, night time is filmed during the day with the aforementioned lens, but the funny thing is the shadows cast are super strong so it doesn't look quite right. :)

Gotta agree about Mitchum in Cape Fear .
DeNiro was ok but Mitchum was one creepy dude.

Andy Robinson, the Scorpio killer in Dirty Harry. He was so hated by the public as the result of his performance in Dirty Harry that he received credible death threats. He left acting to take up directing, doing well in his new field.

Creepy villain

I dont know, maybe its cuz I was young, but Yule Brenner in West World scared the crap outta me.

Yeah, he was the scariest. There was a movie in the '90's about the making of this movie and the premise was they got a real vampire for the movie. and people start getting killed. Lagosi wasn't scary to me but this Shreck guy was way ahead of his time. Eighty or whatever years later this film maintains it's weirdness and never seems tame or corny.

Are you referring to Shadow of the Vampire with Willem Dafoe? That was pretty good.

Anthony Hopkins as Dr. Hannibal Lector (Silence of the Lambs) freaked me out.

That sounds right. As I recall the Vampire looked just like the original. Defoe is pretty creepy himself. Dennis Miller says he's Christopher Walken before you add the water. Did he play Max or the director in this movie? I didn't actually see the whole thing and barely remember it.

Dafoe played Max Schreck.

John Malkovich played the director.

This is one of the many flicks I saw back when I worked in a video store.
