I currently carry a 637, but am thinking of buying a similar revolver in .357 Mag. I like the idea of the internal hammer and weight of the MP revolvers, but don't like the idea of the bite due to the light weight. I'm wondering if the model 327 would fit the bill- a more manageable .357 in a J-frame size, albeit nearly twice the weight. Any thoughts?

Personally, I love my 340PD (two ounces lighter than the 340M&P) for pocket carry, but it does have some kick to it. I also have a 640, which is the stainless version of the centennial (internal hammer) j-frame. At twice the weight, it's much easier to shoot but not suitable for the pocket (in my opinion).

Have carried my M&P340 for over a year, everyday, all day. I wouldn't trade it for any other pocket pistol. Shooting 357's in it don't both me much at all. Though I do have a set of Crimson Trace 405's on mine. The rubber backstrap on the CT's helps a lot.

I have carried the 340 M&P for a few years. It is my favorite gun. I ended up picking up a no lock 442 and an older 60. I really want a Pro Series 640, 43C, and one of those nickel lemon squeezers. The centenniel series is my favorite and the 340 is my favorite centenniel by far.

I do also have my heart set on a Performance Center 627. The N frames are big guns, but the 8 shot capacity is nice. I doubt I would carry it much. It would be a nice house/range gun.

The 327 1 7/8th's is still a handfull, and not concealable guns for most. I don't think there is a controllable scandium revolver. If you can deal with the weight, the stainless bloodwork style revolver would be better. On the other hand, you will not put that many rounds through the gun. You can practice mostly with 38's or 38 +P's.

The 327 is not a J frame, it's a large N frame.

I just received my 340 today and all I can say is, "WOW!" It'll make a great carry gun.

I guess I mistook the barrel length for a J frame. It seems that the 327 would be too big to carry every day as compared to the 340.

Thanks!

Go to a gun shop that has both and look at them side by side, the difference is massive.

I love N frames, especially scandium ones. My M&P R8 is a fine performer and I do carry it. Open carry is legal in PA, as is carrying "partially concealed" as long as you have an LTCF.

Actually, a lot of folks carry N-frames and the 327PC is an excellent choice for those who do, and is a LOT more controllable with full charge 357 loads, plus holds 8 rounds as opposed to 5 in the J-frames. I'm not saying it's better, depends a lot on what someone might need in terms of size/bulk, but it's a better shooter, just not as good a carrier!

I carry a MP 340 in my pants pocket all day. I have shot 38s and 357s. The 357 has a snap to it, but in an emergency that will be the least of my worries. Wife carries a PD 340. We both agree they are pretty good carry guns.
