hey team, question about the 'sport' model lower. i went around looking for the rifle and everyone was out of stock (no surprise). one dealer told me the reason they were so inexpensive was because the lower was made of a composite material. i asked if he was sure and he said that he's had his hands on it and sold a few. from what i read, the upper and lower are 7075 T6 Aluminum, fully-forged in-house by Smith & Wesson. i'd like to hear from actual owners of the 'sport' model. thanks guys!

I don't own one yet but have handled several. The lowers are aluminum. In talking to a factory rep, they are less expensive because they use a polymer for the finish, don't include forward assists or dust covers, and don't chrome line the barrel as per milspec.

Aluminum, annodized (bbl. is melonite). The M&P15/22 is the composite.

He was probably thinking of the Bushmaster Carbon 15.

7075 aluminum. The lower price is due to several factors; melonite over chrome, removed FA and dust cover...... and, the rifle is a 'Loss Leader" They are keeping the price low to garner interest in the M&P rifle line. Once a person has 1, they will look to the others to fill in the lineup. Plus, S&W has volume production on their side that most builders simply can not match, and as such their price point gets to be a bit lower.

thx for the info, team! i decided and finally got the m&p15 sport. upper and lower are not composite! i believe the dealer i spoke with may have tried to steer me into buying one of his custom (frankenberry) builds. taking her to the range this wknd and gonna test her out.

btw check your local dealers, mine has a verterans sale going on this week... 1 rifle, 2 xtra mags, 100 rounds AE 5.56 under $700!!!

wow awesome deal!

Depending on what type of magazines they are, that's an ok deal. A Sport + 2 GI magazines + 100 rounds of Fed AE would be $669 plus tax in my area.

they were 2 pmags (no window), AE 5.56...

clean and lubed the nite i got her and i was able to test her out over the wknd, had a lot of fun. grin from ear to ear! function, great! accuracy, ON POINT. i'm using a primary arms micro clone, held its zero thru all 100 rds. bad news is i may have lost the mp15-22 to my wife...
