Hi y'all,

This is a different sort of "help me choose" thread as I already own both an MP22 and an MP22c. I am trying to decide which of these, or neither, I should trade for a minty S&W 622.

I have found both of my MP .22's utterly reliable with the ammo I feed them and have really zero complaints about either of them, though I do find the cute little compact a tiny bit less comfortable in my hands than the larger MP.

Further, I am aware of the suppressor adaptability of the compact and that intrigues me, but if I ever do go to the all the paper work and trouble to get one of those, I suppose I can always put one on my 622 or my little 2214.

Finally, I have no larger caliber MP's other than a couple of Shields that don't feel exactly like either of the MP .22's so I guess it would be a wash as far as training similarities or holster use or anything.

Does anyone have any thoughts on the future desirability of the MP22 as a result of the Walther/SW cooperation aspect? I am guessing the MP22c will be pretty common for years to come based on their current popularity.

Also, does anyone think I am foolish to trade one of these for a 622?

(anticipating those who would say "keep them all", my gun safe is busting at the seams and I barely shoot all the cool stuff I have, but I cannot avoid "shopping", if you know what I mean.)

Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

Cheers,
D.

Hi OP. I cant speak for which one makes more sense to trade for the new gun; but for me I only keep guns I enjoy fully shooting. Especially when it comes to 22’s. Not talking what ones i “could modify or add parts to” but just in general. If i never reach for one particular gun in the safe as I prefer others, then that one would be on the trading block if needed.
So my .02 is the one you enjoy more stays and the one you don't goes. Again just how my thought process works.

I doubt the M&P 22 full size will be worth substantially more in the future; my guess is it will be considered "a discontinued model" and valued accordingly. If you keep it having key spare parts and extra magazines may not be a bad idea.

At least some of the FS guns were threaded for a suppressor so that is probably a wash with the Compact if it matters to you.

That said, if you want to trade one of yours for a 622, why not the one that is still in production? Good luck in your decision.

I've found the M&P22 (full size) to be surprisingly accurate and a joy to shoot, especially with new shooters. The 12-round mags are also nice.

I would keep the full size because you just don't see them for sale too often, whereas I see many more compacts offered. However, Murphydog makes a good point about spare parts. OTHO Walther makes good guns that last quite a while also and because of their popularity you might get more trade-in value from the compact. In your hypothetical shoes, I'd talk myself into keeping the full size. -S2

Excellent points.
Does anyone know the years of manufacture for the MP22?

I would be really curious to know the production numbers for that model.
