I just purchased MP 9C, decided on this over the Shield, just more comfortable to hold. It is a new to me pistol, purchased used from Gander. I intend to use this as my carry gun due to my daughter claiming my SD9.

Anyway, compact pistol, what is an efficient round? I have Hornady 147gr Critical Duty now. Reading on the various websites 147gr seems to be very efficient for short barrels. Is a +P round a better option?

I carry Winchester 9mm 147 gr Defend .. It was one of the best performing in ballistic jell which all ammo is grade on. You can watch video's on Youtube showing some of the testing that was done .

I've found that I personally am able to get back on target quicker shooting the 147 gr bullets over the 115 or 124 gr ammo at a higher velocity . But everyone is different in their thinking on what they need to carry.

There are other brands that are comparable ! I don't think I need a +P cartridge myself using that ammo.

I carry whatever bullet weight and velocity (+P or standard) shoots to point of aim and most accurately in my guns. Both my wife's 9c and my 9c like 115gr +P best, while my 9FS prefers 147gr and my 3913 shoots 115gr. standard velocity in tiny groups at POA. The only way to find out is to try them.

Admittedly, you have to invest some money, but you can get some much needed trigger time in testing.

For my 9c I prefer HST or Gold Dot 124+P.

For practice my own reloads.

I too watched the YouTube, Ammo Quest 9mm series by ShootingTheBull410. He tested them through a 3.1" barrel pistol and was only concerned with bare gel and gel with 4 layers of denim. I researched the top performers (so far), Winchester W Defend, Federal Premium 124gr HST(P9HST1S), 124gr +P HST (P9HST2), 147 gr HST (P9HST3) and 147gr +P HST (P9HST4). Most all the reviews were positive and supported his results. The W Defend was harder to find other reviews for, but the few I found were positive.

I have only shot the HST 124 gr with no issues. I just got some of the 124 gr +P, but haven't gone to the range with it yet.
