Mt Gun vs Model 18

Local store has a shooter grade 4" 48-2 although im sure its an mis stamped -3 based on non diamond grips and sight screw location. Little holster wear on cylinder and muzzle but tight as a drum. I assumed it was an 18 when I asked to see it. Guy behind counter had no idea what it was. It's exactly what I'm looking for. A very presentable gun (85-90%) that I can carry and shoot. But $629 was too rich for me. I'll let it set awhile. It's not on consignment so eventually they'll want to move it. I've made some great deals there in the past.

I have .22 Combat Masterpiece that I bought at an auction a few years back. Well used, but a great shooter. I wouldn't think of selling it for a new revolver. It goes to the range with me every trip, I'm probably putting about a thousand rounds a year thru it. I carry a K frame at work, so it's a great way to get some inexpensive practice.

I've thought about adding a new 617 Mountain Gun, but I'll have to see one in person first. I have yet to see any of the new Classic revolvers or Mountain Guns in any of the shops around me. One shop allegedly had a few, but they sold before I heard about it.

My model 18 is one of my favorite handguns and I will never sell it. If you can only afford one .22 revolver, or only have interest in owning one, then there is nothing any other .22 revolver you mention can do that the 18 doesn't already do. I'm going to buy a 617 Mountain Gun as soon as I find one locally that I can inspect first. I like K frames and I've wanted a lock-free 617 for years. I will get my money's worth out of it even if I pay MSRP.

Got a look at the new MG in 22 yesterday, they are nicely put together. The grips felt a bit odd in the hand other than that a nice k frame with the expanded ammo onboard

I can't wait to get my hands on one. I personally prefer rubber grips and the stock S&W K/L round butt grip they sell on standard 617s, 686s, etc. is just about perfect for me. I have a spare one sitting in a drawer right now just waiting for the new 617 MG when one turns up.
