Spelll Check - Final Exam at Hogwarts ? ? ?

"I have no respect for a man who can spell a word only one way." Attributed to Mark Twain

I have not seen a requirement for correct grammar and spelling in the Forum Rules.

Requirement for Polite and Kind discussion is implied.

Yes, no grammar rules, but reading some threads makes one cringe.

One has to realize many errors are from spellcheck interpreting what one wishes to say incorrectly.

But, my guess is that grammar is no longer stressed in school these days.

One biggie I see a lot is when one writes the way one talks and writes "I should of" and "I could of", when they really mean "should've" (should have) and "could've" (could have).

OK, here's my polite thoughts on this subject. Samuel Longhorn Clemens, aka Mark Twain, was a well known pool player. As such he was proficient in the use of English. As a writer of humor the attributed quote can be taken a number of ways. Spin you know.

I am trying to find a way of blaming spell check for batchelors.

Teaching spelling, grammar, and cursive handwriting are critical! Lack of emphasis on teaching these critical skills just contributes to the degeneration of American society.

I once required those that I supervise to take a grammar course available on the training site on the intranet of my employer, as their grammar and spelling was so bad. One wrote "their" 100% of the time even if they meant "there" or "they're". Once I did that, I quickly heard from the Union about that. Basically, the Union implied they encouraged ignorance and indifference. I give up!
