Just picked up this pistol today. Can't wait to hit the range with it tomorrow and take her for a ride!! As with anything I buy I can't seem to leave it how it came. Are there any must do upgrades that I can't live without?

The only Must Do upgrade I can think of is extra mags. After 18 Months of EDC, Mine is still stock.

Unlike some of the other pistols out there, the Shield doesn't need a trigger kit, but if you just can't leave well enough alone and have money to blow, you could always get an Apex kit. ;)

Of course, there are plenty of threads about night sights too.

I have used mine for EDC since the week they were released. For me, an already great weapon became perfect when I removed the thumb safety, added an apex sear & USB, & TFO sights. Add a few 8 rd mags and you're in business.

I pocket conceal my Shield and frankly the rear stock sight is a pocket grabber.

The only modification I made has been to change out the stock sights for XS Big Dot night sights.

My Shield is a defense weapon not a target weapon. XS Big Dot gets on target quicker than notch and post sights and at 7 yards I can get the shots where they need to be--center mass.

Mine is as she came from the factory as well. So far I really can't think of something that MUST be changed.

Shield is great as is. Upgrades are personal preference . Since mine is my carry pistol, I choose to go with the Apex carry kit and truglo TFO sights.

The best thing too do with your new shield is shoot it, the more you do the better it will feel

I too added APEX sear and USB. Makes a really nice EDC for me. Got to love the gun laws in GA.

I like the ameriglo pro idot. They are tritium tubes and the front is outlined with dayglo orange. They make a shield specific version. I run a version on all my carry guns.

Nothing needed but lots of ammo.... I did add XS Big Dot sights and MagGuts for +1 in my mags.

This is my first S&W Shield 9mm. I'm usually a Glock guy but I want a single stack 9mm for summer carry and the new G43 is just too small for my hand. I love it so far and as you can see I customized it a little bit:

FDE Cerakote
Custom Stippling
Viridian R5 laser

Please let me know what you think....

My Shield has Talon Rubber Grip, Trijicon HD sights, and APEX Carry Kit.

My wife's Shield has a perfect stock trigger so she has the Talon Rubber Grip and Trijicon HD sights.

Technically it's 1.5 stack, but the capacity is "single". I like the 1.5 design for ease of inserting the mag. :)
