A Cedar Rapids man was arrested Thursday afternoon after a high-speed motorcycle chase through Cedar Rapids that saw speeds up to 164 miles per hour, according to the Iowa State Patrol.
Kyle Russell, 20, faces a number of charges, including a speeding violation (164 mph in a 65 mph zone), four other speed violations, two counts of eluding police, reckless driving, unsafe passing, two stop sign violations, a registration violation and no proof of insurance.
The chase started when four motorcycles were clocked going 104 mph traveling eastbound on U.S. highway 30 near the Iowa Highway 13 intersection, according to the state patrol.
When a trooper pulled out to stop them, the motorcycles accelerated rapidly and split up. The officer, aided by another officer in a helicopter, stayed with one of the vehicles.

The aircraft radar recorded speeds of 164 mph.

Police caught the man after he entered a storage area and was found hiding in a boat, which was parked in the building, police said.

Russell was driving a 2002 Yamaha YZF R1 1000cc.

The officer in the helicopter might have stayed with him, but the sad sack in the Crown Vic probably was WAY behind. Police cars today are not any different engine wise than the Grand Marquis sitting on the showroom floor. Good thing they got radios and helicopters, because they damn sure need them.
