Been lurking and posted a couple times but don't think I have ever posted any photos of mine so---.
Picked her up in a local shop for $400 OTD.

Shot a good foot or so LOW at 10 yards out of the box with the fixed 3 dot night sights so I went to an adjustable rear.
I now have it dialed in nicely and she is a great shooter that groups well.
Am a little curious as to what was going on with the factory sights as all I can think is some how it must have gotten the wrong front sight at S&W. I also had to dial down the adjustable rear after the install a good bit to get her up on target.
Here she is with the new sight and she shoots dead on now.

She runs 165 Underwood TMJ regularly with the 20 lb springs and shoots like a dream.

You did well on that buy. In the box, out the door for $400!? Wow...you usually see a 1066 going for about twice that. I'v been kind of looking for one, without any luck. Great catch!

What type sights did you get?
The 3 dot LPA adjustable rear from Precision sales and love it!! Looks IMO MUCH nicer than the factory adjustable and is a very compact unit that should be quite stable. Had no problem dialing it in on the range and it and has so far been rock stable even after running several hundred rounds of Underwood 10mm stuff through her. If you don't know about the Underwood it's HOT!!

I shot some Underwood on Tuesday, actually. It is good stuff!

And thanks for the sight info. I had run across them before but didn't think I'd bookmarked the vendor. Now I have.

You have a nice 1066 there. I like the adjustable sights on there. You certainly got a great deal on a great pistol.

You sure did something right for someone

Great buy
I just got one myself paid a lot more than that
Hank

PS I did gback to be sure the origanial post was not from 1996 HAHA

Congratulations that is a great price. My 1086 also shot about a foot low with the stock sights. I just changed out the front sight for a shorter one. I would like to add a 1066 to my collection of 10mm's.

That is the 4th 3 gen S&W 10mm i have heard of that shot way off and low out of the box. Got a question for you did yours have the night sights? The other 3 did is why I ask.
PS notice your user ID and a 1006 is high on my pickup list for the future.
First order is a 2nd or 3rd gen double stack 9mm in single double to EDC.
My Glock 29 is to bulky and heavy and the 1066 is an absolute BRICK and my MK IV Browning High Power double action only and just too expensive to EDC. Right now I normally carry ether an old off duty Charter .38 or a .380 TCP Taurus. Want more capacity and punch in a compact package than both will give me. Have been waffling between the Glock 26 or a S&W stainless for a while. I'm pretty firm now on going with one of the old S&W's after living with both the Glock 29 and the 1066 on the range for a while.

My Son bought it for my Birthday last year so yep it's pretty current. I saw it in a shop with my Son wanted it but didn't have any cash on hand and had left my card at home. Came back to get it a couple days later and it was gone, a month later he handed it to me on my birthday :cool:.
We swap weapons on most Birthdays and Christmas LOL.
I fell in love with the 1076 he had and had given him a nice FEG High Power for his last birthday so--.

Yes my 1086 came with night sights. They were very dim when I got the pistol. I couldn't believe how low it shot. I had to order a front sight blade for a 9mm to get the impact where I wanted it.

My 1006 has the factory adjustable sights. I like the adjustabilty when switching between light bullets and heavy bullets but I would prefer an aftermarket adjustable sight to the S&W one but unfortunately the way its made there is no replacing it that I know of but it works.

I also have a Glock 20 and I want to add a 29 I just haven't picked one up yet. I want to pick up a 1066, and 1076 also. I wouldn't turn down a 1026 or 1046 but I doubt I run across either anytime soon.

Gotta ask, what weight bullet was shooting so low. My 1006 is a foot down with 155gr but right on with 180.

For me it was 155's. My 1006 has adjutable sights so it was never an issue. I tried 180's before I changed the front sight and they were low as well just not as much.

My 1066 shot very low with everything so low it was hard to tell how it actually shot with what load before the adjustable sights went on.
We are talking feet low at say 20 yards.
No question on mine it had to tall a front sight from the factory but the sight I used dialed down enough to zero.
