I have a Model 14-4 with a Bomar rib. It has a new .5" target hammer and new .5" target trigger. SA pull is 1000 grams/2.2# and DA is 3400 grams/7.5#. It is roughly 44 years old and is as accurate today as the day it came from he factory. I only shoot 148 gr. HBWC. It has a great black finish that is still about 90% coverage. See photo. While I am not in the market to sell, I am interested in knowing it's value. Can anyone help? BTW, this was given to me by a close friend that I used to shoot with in NJ. He no longer is shooting and gifted it to me.

Custom guns are worth what ever you can get for them.
Not trying to be negative but unless work was done by
A famous gunsmith a factory stock gun has more appeal
To collectors.
Your guns value is it was gifted to you by a friend.
That said I would think it would bring between $700 and $1000
At auction. The grips are interesting .

As noted - custom guns have limited interest and lesser value than the same unaltered gun. Ribs, match style barrels and after market sights may make a good shooter but there is a much smaller consumer interest thus value. I would think about $300 for a paper puncher or tin can shooter.

I guess that maybe I'm on the other side of the fence, and think it might be worth a bit more, to the right person of course. Sure, the rib limits the amount of potential buyers, but there aren't that many guns like that out there. Sure they are different, but IMO, that's what makes them cool. If you think that the rule is "custom guns are worth less", tell that to the next person who has a model 14 with a King Cockeyed Hammer/rib setup, or one of the members here who have an engraved gun, or 50. Beauty is always in the eye of the beholder.
I think that your model 14 is really cool, and coming from a good friend makes it even more valuable.

This gun was used strictly for bullseye shooting in a league in NJ. I shot in that same league with my 586 back in the 80's.
He put the rib on to add weight and recoil reduction. It had both a target hammer and target trigger. However, my gunsmith said that it would be best to replace with the same style. Both hammer and trigger are S&W parts. The grips are hardwood from Thailand, cost me $25 a few years ago. I have a set of Herrett's thumb rest target grips but as I get older, I like the grips on it better. I currently shoot for a club here in S. FL and I will use it for our bullseye matches along with my 586. While everyone in our club uses red dot on their centerfire guns, I continue to shoot irons. In NJ both he and I shot for the Northern NJ Police Revolver League and irons were all we could use. I am not interested in selling, but I bet there is a buyer out there if I posted it.
