It is a nice Gun,Thanks for sharing. The Stocks look like they may be replacements,The grain looks too nice to me.As for a value I would say in the $500-$650 range,The ground off stamping really hurts the collector value.

I have to agree. Removal of the property stamping also removes virtually all collector interest, leaving it with value only as a shooter. But a pretty good shooter. I assume you are aware it uses .45 ACP or .45 Auto Rim ammunition. Clips are nice when using .45 ACP, but not absolutely necessary. But without clips, you have to pull out each fired case individually.

Thanks Carbon! The grips could be replacements as there are no serial numbers on them. I inherited the gun from my father in law who carried it in the forrests of Oregon as critter protection. Have been thinking of selling it to fund purchase of new M&P 45.

Yes! I shoot .45 ACP using half moons. But I dont shoot this gun very often.

It looks like a super nice shooter, which is nothing to sneeze at in .45 ACP. I think someone who wants a good home defense/woods gun would be lucky to find one that nice for $700.

A huge plus is that the serial number on the butt frame was not ground off! If it had been, I would not touch it with a ten foot pole!

Yeah, I got a comment. Too bad some Moron ground off the U.S. Property marking. Reduced the value of the gun to about 1/2 what it should be, otherwise nice looking shooter.

yeah its a nice gun! And, if my father in law, or his older brother before, were the ones that removed the stamping, I still wouldnt consider them morons. But I guess I'll never know! :)

Back in the day, it was not uncommon for people to remove the "U.S. Property" markings. I understand it was also commonly done on M1911s.

Too bad for today's collectors but what's done is done.

I own 1917's by S&W and Colt. It's really cool to shoot a piece of history. Before you give it up, shoot it. You may change your mind. Good luck.

Very nice. I'd take it for the right price. With the property mark gone I'd be tempted to cut it down to 4 inches. I like the look and feel of the shorter barrels. Let us know how it shoots. Good luck.

I thank you all for your comments on this gun! I am going to keep it in the family. It is fun to shoot, as are all guns. The M&P will have to wait a bit longer, no big deal. I have plenty of firearms to keep me busy, lol! You all take care.

Keep your bores clean and your knives sharp!
