My 29-3 that I just purchased..

Nice find , congrats ! I have a 29-3 that I bought NIB, many years ago. Great shooting gun, and although not as popular as the earlier pinned /recessed guns, quickly going up in value . You did good, enjoy your find !

I only have one .44 Magnum. My 6.5" 29-2 shipped back in January 1964.

Yep, S&W 29-3 6" barrel 44 mag, love it , shoot it, love it long time.
Bought it 1985 for $350. I had a S&W 29 6.5" from 1973. But had to sell it to go to China for LIFE Magazine for photo story.

I wanted one since they were first introduced back in the misty ages of time. Couldn't actually find one as the "Dirty Harry" movies made them unattainable for us mere mortals. So, I settled for my model 57 41 Mag. In my waning years, I have managed to acquire a new 629 in stainless. Great firearm, easy to handle with my large "paws". Would I get a '29 if it was available for this price? In a "New York minute". I personally like the recessed chambers, my 629 doesn't have them. Just a matter of preference on my part. Do they actually protect the heads of the rounds? Doubtful but since I prefer Elmer Keith's loads of 2400 under his hard-cast semi-wadcutter.

Great find ! I have a 29-3 that is not quite as nice as yours and it doesn't have the presentation case. N frames are like potato chips, you can't have just one... I have six, and I'm still looking. lol Enjoy it !
