I had all Winchester rounds with me today to break in my new Shield .40. It liked WWB flat nose, Ranger T 180 grain and Ranger T 165 grain. But I got so many failures with the PDX1 Elite 165 grain that I stopped shooting them. It was like they never came up out of the magazine. The slide was back but the round never made it to the ramp. And I had one stovepipe.
I shot about 300 of the other three rounds without a problem. I wanted to carry the PDX1 for my defensive carry rounds.
I'm going to try some Federal HST 180 grain rounds next. I'm sticking with the Ranger T 180 grain rounds until they arrive.
Oh, and I have two bloody divots in my forehead where the spent cases hit me. Never seen that happen before.

That is a good example why someone needs to shoot defensive loads until they find one they are comfortable with and trust

It has to do with the shape of the round on the PDX. I've had the same issue with a LOT of my guns with this ammo.

Compare it to lets say a speer gold dot, ranger or flat nose WWB.

Its rounded, not angled and flat. Feed ramps dont like em. Only pistol I have that will feed them reliably is my Kahr CW40. But that has a very lightly angled ramp. Steeper ramps hate them.

These are the ones I carry in my .40. I've put numerous of these rounds down range before deciding on being my primary carry.

So far not a single failure of any type. After all of these that I have sent down range. I believe I trust my life with them.

You should shoot at least 100 rounds of the ammo you plan to use for self defense. If it doesn't give 100% reliability, find ammo that does.

There is a difference in ammo.

It must be 100% reliable in YOUR pistol, not my pistol, not someone else's pistol.

Forget about gee whiz ammo. First and foremost, it must work every time!

I don't have a .40 but I like and use Winchester PDX1 Bonded ammo in my 9mm, I use the 124gr+p and in my .45 I don't use +P just because i could never find it in +P.. In any case bullet shape and or bullet length is what your gun may not like.. You may simply need to polish the feed ramp.. I have two Colt Officers Models ser.80 Mark IV with a very steep angle to the frame ramp after polishing they feed fine and continue too.. Bullets hold up well to chambering don't seem to get dented or deformed like some other HP's.. George

Do you notice that relative to other pistols you have to really get the slide back to lock it open - that last little bit?

Did you have an issue with one particular mag - or both equally?

The ammo I was running was UMC FMJ 165gr.

I know this is an old thread but I experienced this same thing with the PDX1 and a Pro Series 9 that I picked up this week. Seems to function fine on all other ball target ammo. I did not have any other HP's to try out today but figured I would just go to the Gold Dot being that they seem to have a more angled nose and not the rounded nose. Glad to see others were having the same issue and that it is probably not the gun. I only had it happen once out of 40 rounds of PDX but that is still enough to make me try something else.
