Ordered it last Friday and was told it would ship out later this week. Got a shipping conformation yesterday, and it was at my FFL this morning when I got up...morning is 11:00 AM for me.

Brought it home and ran a brush and swab down the barrel and off to the range I went.

After hearing about the uncomfortable recoil, I was hoping to put at least half a box thru it. Maybe I'm not recoil sensitive, or maybe my hand will be killing me later, but I put 100 rounds of Winchester white box 130 grain FMJ thru it, and 20 rounds of aluminum case +P I found that I probably bought 30-35 years ago. Couldn't tell any noticeable difference in the ammo as far as recoil. Could be due to the age of the +P?

Bottom line, it's not a target revolver for sure, but at around 25 feet I was most happy with my results. Seriously thinking about making this my EDC. I even like the factory grips.

It's way lighter than my Glock 27, and pretty close to my LCP I carry some.

Did S&W go back to cardboard boxes on some models?

My dealer couldn't explain it to me but seems only the 442 without lock comes in the plastic box.

So that's what I bought. ;)

The model 63-5 I bought about two months ago came in a cardboard box like yours (Post #1).
The 642 I bought in 2005 came in a nice hinged plastic box with foam inserts.
PS. the model 63 cost about twice what the 642 did, of course 13 years later.

Nice purchase. I carry my 442 daily in my jeans front pocket with an Uncle Mikes holster...so light I almost forget its there. Recoil on mine doesn't bother me either. I also have a Lobo IWB/horsehide holster and a Enhanced Pancake. Great carry gun!!

Congratulations on your new 642. IMO, J frames are easily carried. Made a significant difference when I switched from a G26 Gen 4 to a 638.

Congrats on you 642. This is my 642-1 I've owned for 5 years. I carry it cross-draw in a couple different holsters. :)

The wife asked about tne blade in your picture I told her most of you guys would try to dig the bullets out of some o e so you can reuse them to save a few bucks lol lol she actually looked stunned she believed it.

The gold standard of carry when your not carrying. It's my no carry,24/7. Never leave without it and my home carry. Knock ,knock who's there ! Horace and Dan 5 -4-Sure!!

LOL;):D That's a Boker auto--a must have for your wife's purse :)

I solved the recoil problem I had with my 442. When I go to the range, I take ten shots with the 442 and then switch over to my Ruger Speed Six. :-)
