My 686-4 Gosh I really like it

sorry I am a noob in regards to S&W revolvers, what does the "-4" mean? 4th generation or something?

thank you

btw I am very interested in getting a 686 2.5" or 627...
I don't have any revolver I am thinking to add one to my collection

I believe you have essentially answered your own question.

As for your desire for a revolver, I can't argue with your wish. If you intend to shoot .357 mags, you may want to consider a longer barrel being that it will be your first and only. Just a suggestion.

My Thanks

I'd like to thank everyone for their help and input. I appreciate how friendly and considerate the members of this forum are for even the most basic questions.
Thank you all!

-4 (spoken "dash four") is the 4th engineering change, in this case of the Model 686. The first and original 686 would be a no-dash, etc.

I also recommend a longer barrel for your first and only revolver, unless it will be an EDC. My favorite barrel length for 357 is 6" for the increased velocity and sight radius, although I have had a lot of 4 inchers. My EDC is a J frame in .38 special. It's a lot lighter and smaller but still uses full power .38s.
