My dog is sick, anyone deal with Pancreatitis

Worst feeling in the world is coming home from work and seeing your little buddy lying next to bloody stool thinking he is going to be in trouble because of it. We had to put him in the hospital for about a week, then a few weeks later he was in for another week. since we cut the fat he has done fine. Got to watch him like a hawk though becasue he still tries to sneak cat food or anything that falls on the floor. Good luck to ya!

I had a little lowrider poodle that came down with it at about age 4. Took a few days in the hospital, several units of something and a fair sized pile of money but he came out of it fine. We watched his diet carefully from then on and Scooter ruled the roost until he was nearly 17 and his heart gave out.

Thank you for all of your kind words

I visit her every day, she ate some today and had a good elimination. We went for a decent walk she was strong and looked better after it.

Dr is slightly less optimistic than he was before :(

He is afraid that the drugs she is on are making her good and when we go back to pill form she wont do as well.

She will be in until Friday and then we will reevaluate things

Heres one of her in early spring

She will be 12 in the fall.

I am coming to terms with this not ending well...:(

Yes best of luck. Mine had a mild case once and I think just a really bland low fat diet is what it took. Yours sounds quite a bit worse and I hope for nothing but the best. It is terrible having pets go through things where they can't verbalize and love is the only e,patchy you can express.

I saw this from the other side of the exam table years ago..

Now I am an academic and I still see it but from the imaging side of things.
Long distance Monday morning quarterbacking isn't something I do but having said that, I think you are getting some quality care there in Conn.
As others have pointed out, Min Schnauzers are prone to get this . I also considered it a "Disease of Indulgence".. Usually small breed house dogs fed a diet heavy in fat/table scraps. This is obviously not your case. Having Diabetes is a confounding issue.
I hope you have a good outcome but even with the best of care, sometimes we get an adverse result. You have done all you can and it sounds like the team that is taking care of your pet is also doing all they can.

Well, that's at least some good news, home and getting better.

I am always amazed at how attached we get to our dogs and how we will do anything we can to get them over whatever injury or illness they might have.

Might be because of the unconditional love they show us.

Bob
