I love the older L-frame Smiths and I have a 98% 4" 586 that is one of my favorite revolvers. I just have never been crazy about the full underlug barrel and was thinking about a customizing job on the gun. I always liked 5" barrels and will probably get a 5" M-27 some day, but would it be possible for a gunsmith to put a 5" M-27 barrel on this old 586?

To me that would be the ultimate .357 that Smith never made.

Farmer,
Smith made a run of 5" half lug guns a few years ago. I have one but unfortunately it has the "dreadlocks". Maybe they have a few barrels
left in parts. Might be worth a call. Fitting a 27 barrel is possible but would be expensive because of difference in frame size.
